Framerate issue

I have a new box for testing AMD 3400+ with ATI 9800 pro. When I have animated characters in view the framerate goes to 5 or less. This is not an issue with my other computers. There was some issue I saw sometime ago about ATI cards openGL32.dll or something to that effect with this (cant find it now). I'm sure it's a problem with the computer since the game runs fine on other computers. Any Ideas?

The latest drivers don't automatically make them the best. You may need to go back to an older driver. I know others have the same video card so you may want to ask what drivers they are using.

The latest Catalyst drivers are crap. They killed HL2, Project Snowblind, and TGE on my machine.

The latest drivers can often by similar to the latest service pack or update of Windows, lol ... sometimes best to steer clear for a couple months until all the bugs and issues are fixed and the bugs from the bugs are fixed, etc.

Ok I used the same drivers as my other XP system, (previous Catalyst drivers). Installed Doom 3, Everquest 2. Both games run great, full effects smothe frame rates. Ran my game, I get about 10 fps. Same game on my 3 other computers runs same scene 30 - 40 fps. So any more suggestions as to what could cause it?

were you running it in the same mode on other computers? same pref and config files?
there's just a million different variables between PC's (beyond the drivers). the pain of pc development. the pain.

Is this your game or the torque demo? if it's your game, try the demo out and tell us what the framerate is like. although the other computer thing is the catch I guess. are you running torque in OpenGL or D3D mode? try the other mode if you can see if the framerates are similar. were you running it in the same mode on other computers? same pref and config files?

I stay clear of all the "latest" drivers from ATI and instead run 3rd party drivers like the ones that OMEGA put out.
Do a google search for "OMEGA drivers" and you should get the site.
These drivers are usually "hacked" to dramatically increase game performance and stability.
Might just help your problem.

I'm also the proud owner of a Radeon 9800Pro. I stay clear of all the "latest" drivers from ATI and instead run 3rd party drivers like the ones that OMEGA put out.
