PSP! What do you think?

Have anyone here bought themselves a PSP yet? A couple of people I work with just bought themselves a PSP from Sony and gave me a chance to look at it! The graphics on that machine really knocked my socks off! I had a chance to view Dynasty Warriors and Brother of the Blade. When I have enough money, those three items are on my wish list for sure!

Since you're the main brains behind the Garage Games Torque Game Engine, do you have any plans of having the Torque support the PSP platform?

Benjamin, Robert and myself have one and we regularly throw down some Lumines madness.

Lumines is the most entertaining game for the PSP right now. Ape Escape and Dynasty Warriors could have done with a lot more analog testing, but are quite fun. Dynasty Warriors seems kind of pointless since saving characters doesn't seem to matter a whole lot, unlike leveling up in the other DW games. Ape Escape is an excellent port of the PSX game, though. Metal Gear Acid is the most beautiful game for the PSP, though I really, really don't like card-based titles. I keep trying them out to see if one will catch me, but not yet. Not Baten Katos (beautiful game) not MGA. BotB was fun, but the random dungeon generation is horribly unbalanced. THUG is a lot of fun, and since I like the Tony Hawk games, I can't put it down. Twisted Metal is a lot of fun, and DarkStalkers has long been one of my favorite 2D fighting game series. Ridge Racer is a lot of fun, but I have trouble getting into handheld racers for some reason. It's definitely better than the strange control scheme on RR DS.

One thing I hate about the PSP is it's power slider's location, which is right along the side of the console where you hold it to have access to the L/R shoulder buttons. Luckily, the power settings will store a gamestate so powering off isn't a big issue. In fact, it's a feature that any handheld should have.

PortaTorque would be fun, though. Orbz is on the Tapwave, so it's definitely possible.

I got myself a PSP on the first day it was available in the US along with Metal Gear Acid, Wipeout Pure, and Lumines. MGA is a neat game, but I'm still trying to get the hang of a card-based game. Wipeout Pure is a great racing game, especially in multiplayer mode. 8 players is absolute madness. Lumines is pure crack. You will lose a lot of your life to that game. Be forewarned. :)

The additional media capabilities are quite nice. I've loaded my memory stick with photos and videos, and I occasionally use my PSP as a portable backup drive, since it is basically a big USB memory stick reader. My only complaint is that memory stick media is pretty spendy compared to other formats like compact flash and SD. Otherwise, the media features work great for me.

Ah yes! I'm glad Danny covered Wipeout Pure as I missed it! It's definitely an extremely streamlined and exciting racing game!

I haven't used the media features, though. Good to see that someone did!
