Where is this editor? I am running Mac OS X, and I cant find one. I tried re-downloading the game but there was no editor to be found. Please help.

    The editor is the same executable as the game, launched with different arguments. I have no idea how to do that on a mac.

    O, ok, does anyone know how to then? I would love to try my hand at maps.

    Launch it from the console, and it will work just the same as the PC version.

    By console do you mean Dock? The thing that runs across the bottom of the screen? Because when I do that it only brings up the main menu, and there is no editor there.

    Did you mean the application: Console? Because that doesnt do much, and plus, I can't open Zap! with any other application, scince it is an application in itself.

    Going into the actuall Zap! Folder, there is Levels folder, License Agreement.txt, README.txt, sfx folder, and the ZAP Icon.

    I'm sorry to be such a pain, but I am not a huge computing wizz.

    Edit: Just to make sure this isn't it. Do you need to be registered to use the editor? Because I am not. Might be a stupid question, but I just want to make sure.

    You do not need to be registered. You just need to launch it from the console. Most Mac users are completely lost in the console... just like most Windows users couldn't use DOS to save their soul.

    The console is also known as the command prompt, or the BSD prompt. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a step-by-step guide because I don't have a Mac handy, and I myself have only used OS 10 a few times.

    Ok then, thanks for your time, I'll toy around with it and see if I can't figure it out anyways.

    Hmmm, looking at the Console help. It doesnt say anything about being a command prompt so much as a log of log of everything including background processes.

    I don't have a mac at home, I will try to remember to get this information tomorow from Alex or Josh, however I *think* it is:

    Applications->Utilities->Console

    That will give you a UNIX shell. I'll get step-by-step stuff tomorow if I remember.

    Yes, I know how to reach it, and open it (and that's correct). But how to use it I havn't figured out. From what Ican see, and have tried, I can't input anything.

    Thnx alot if you can remember.

    There are some instructions in the readme included with the game. that's a starting point anyway.

    The application you want to use for that is 'terminal', not 'console'. Think unix, not windows.

    what editor are you looking for? f11 for the gui mission/terrain editor (might be option f11, or you might need to configure your function keys)

    for editing scripts, i use jedit. it's free. www.jedit.org

    good luck.

    F11? Are we thinking the same game? This is the Zap forum.

    Ummm, ya, F11 bumps all the open windows off screen. I was thinking it was Terminal.

    No matter how I use F11 (F11, Function+F11, Alt/Option+F11, Control+F11, Apple+F11) it doesnt do anything.

    Still can't launch the editor on OS X, but I learned some stuff:

    To run a ".app" thing (file? folder?) from the Mac OS X terminal, it looks like you have to use the "open" command:
    www.ss64.com/osx/open.html

    So, once you cd to the zap folder, you can run ZAP like this:
    open ./ZAP.app

    "open" has the concept of opening a file with an application, but I didn't expect the ZAP editor to work like that, and it doesn't:

    [localhost:/Applications/Games/Zap! Folder] awhyte% open -a ./ZAP.app ./levels/soccer1.txt
    2005-01-23 02:49:50.379 open[1947] LSOpenFromURLSpec() returned -10827 for application ./ZAP.app path /Applications/Games/Zap! Folder/levels/soccer1.txt.
    2005-01-23 02:49:50.381 open[1947] Couldn't open file: /Applications/Games/Zap! Folder/levels/soccer1.txt

    Yay, as of build 140 I can access the level editor from the in-game menu!

    @Zac - Zap! Demo is just that a demo of the game. Playing the full game with high score tracking and full functionality is part of enjoying the benefits of ownership of Zap! Did we somehow give the wrong impression that this was meant for infinate free play and not just a try before you buy demo?

    No i realized that it was a demo. And I probably should have realized that it wasn't very long until the full version was out and limits were put on guest players. I just don't think that I will spend money on this considering I'm not very good, and it can onlybe enjoyable for a bit.

    It's a great game, but not right for me. I realize that you had to do something to make money, andwith this game there isn't much to be done because your trying to relate to the retro arcade games.

    All I was saying is that, I am not going to play as much anymore. And thats all I said. Nothing about it deing a demo. But thanks anyways, good luck on the game!
