Ugly hatching bug in OpenGL

I've installed the Torque demo. Everything works fine and smooth, except this bug in OpenGL mode :
I did not encounter yet this kind of issue in DirectX mode.
Similar bug occurs when running the Emaga4 example from the "3D Game Prog. All In One" book :

I know I could install new drivers, but I prefer to keep an original configuration like any non-techie player, since everything else works fine...
Wouldn't it be great to fix this bug, to get a perfect compatibility on ~3 years old cards ?
My specs :
OpenGL driver information:
Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Renderer: Radeon 7000 DDR x86/SSE (my comment : it's an ATI "Mobility" Radeon, on an IBM laptop)
Version: 1.3.3420 WinXP Release
OpenGL Init: Enabled Extensions
ARB_multitexture (Max Texture Units: 3)
EXT_compiled_vertex_array
EXT_texture_env_combine
EXT_packed_pixels
EXT_fog_coord
ARB_texture_compression
EXT_texture_compression_s3tc
(ARB|EXT)_texture_env_add
EXT_texture_filter_anisotropic (Max anisotropy: 16.000000)
WGL_EXT_swap_control
OpenGL Init: Disabled Extensions
EXT_paletted_texture
NV_vertex_array_range
3DFX_texture_compression_FXT1
NPatch tessellation

I think my notebook has a radeon 7xxx. Never had that problem, but maybe I'm in directx mode. How do you switch to opengl?

OpenGL is the default mode.
You can check on this by lauching the Torque Demo, and in the default "FPS Starter Kit" main screen, choose "Options".
The OpenGL setting is in this new window, "Graphics" tab, "Display driver" button.

If you are going to be playing games/developing them you really need to keep your video drivers up to date.

But if we consider the casual potential players, who don't even know they have to upgrade their dirvers, these kind of bugs won't push them to buy the game, right ?

If I consider only my playing and dev activities, yes. But if we consider the casual potential players, who don't even know they have to upgrade their dirvers, these kind of bugs won't push them to buy the game, right ?

Little disappointed. I didn't notice it when I went through the demo program before buying.

I have a similar problem on mine. It is an ECS AG315 card and all drivers are up-to-date. Granted it isn't the latest and greatest card - but if I'm writing games I want them to work on a wide group of cards. I would expect it to work on a 4xAGP card.Little disappointed. I didn't notice it when I went through the demo program before buying.

1/ This bug happens to me only (I thought the ATI Mobility Radeon was a common card)
2/ This bug may happen to (maybe a lot of) game customers, but nobody cares
