Well, as the comments on that page say, the SP2 firewall can be configured ;) so you can simply open the ports which it blocks by default if your game needs them... I cant think of anything else that would cause problems with online games...
(not that I've tried the SP2 yet, though, since it seems to introduce some other heavy system changes and I'm sure that'll break a lot of stuff... so better don't touch it at all :P)

He was refering to Tribes2 being in the list, since Torque is derived from the Tribes2 codebase.

Seesm to work fine for me since I updated to sp2. Just came up with a message saying Torque was trying to access the internet, I clicked allow and it worked.

I think it mainly refers to WinXP's built in firewall. I don't think it pops up asking what to allow and what not to allow, like other firewall software does.

You can completely disable your WinXP firewall by right clicking on your desired internet connection going to properties and on the last tab of the dialog box you can enable/disable it.

With SP2, Microsoft started using popups when a new program attempts to access the internet. If you are familiar with using ZoneAlarm, it's just like that.

I've not tried it with a Torque game, but it did pop up when I accidently tried to start a multiplayer server.

I don't have SP2 installed(haven't felt like updating using my dial-up connection), so thanks for filling me in.
