It wont work!

Hi ther I just downloaded the Torque Release_1_2_2 and something went wrong.
I have the Visual C++ 2003 toolkit so I went int the vc7 file and selected the VC7.cc compiling file and then clicked yes to confirm adding the stuff to my directory. Then nothing happened. I mean it said that it had been added but I could not open any files. Then I tried using the open with command and tried a number of things including the VC++ toolkit command line prompt then it says that it is invalid Win32 application.
I was really excited about this torque engine and it really sucks that it doesn't work because there is no refund.
Please help
I would be eternally grateful!
Thank you for your time!

www.garagegames.com/docs/torque/general/pt01.php
There is also information about how to setup your compiler and everything. Maybe that helps.

I've never used VC toolkit 2003; in theory it should work fine if you can get a build environment working, since Torque does compile on the same compiler in the IDE.

There seems to be a problem with Unix CR/LFs when downloading from the CVS. One of the simptoms is the project not opening in the compiler. Check the FAQ and the CVS download docs to see if you downloaded everything correctly.

As far as I know, no one has *ever* compiled TGE with the VC++ 2003 Toolkit...
...until I did on Firday night. I will post complete directions for how to do this tomorrow night (Tuesday night). I will warn you though that it takes a bit of effort.
You may want to take a look at this in the meantime:

Oh wait i dont know if this is a problem or not but if you read my post at the top you will see that i have tried to open with several things. So my question to you folks is this: is there anyway to wipe these previous attemps from my computer memory? If not then will your (matthew's) procedure still work.also redownloading torque does not get rid of these attemps.
thanx again for all the help.

Oh yeah one more question. once you compil torque with the 2003 tool kit do you use some kind of thing that comes with torque to program stuff with it or do have to use the toolkit's command line. Which is crappy compared to other visual studio products.

Alright thanx Matthew. Hey I got a question for you. Do you have the book called Video Game programming all in one or something like that. its upposed to be like a torque manual and I was thinking of getting it if this works.Oh yeah one more question. once you compil torque with the 2003 tool kit do you use some kind of thing that comes with torque to program stuff with it or do have to use the toolkit's command line. Alright this is gonna take a while cause I'll have to do it at someone elses house. This is because I only have 56K and a required download would about 30 hours. Wait a second hey Matthew when I go to download the express beta do I have to also download the two other things that it shows when you click on the Important Information When downloading... If I dont have to have these thing It will save a lot of time so please tell me.

I would also point out that even if you go with the VC++ Toolkit only you are going to have to get the Platform SDK so it really isn't going to change things as far as downloading goes.
The reason I recommended the VS Express Beta is b/c it will give you a nice graphical IDE for editing the source files. With the Toolkit you are going to be editing the source files in a text editor like Notepad or with a free IDE like Eclipse (another large download).
If you poke around a little bit you can find directions for other free C++ compilers that will have *much* smaller downloads.
Ultimately, I would recommend you pick up a cheap copy of Visual Studio .NET

If you just download the things I linked in my instructions you will be fine. Keep in mind that the VS Express Beta and the Platform SDK are web installs so you are going to have to have your computer at this friend's house.I would also point out that even if you go with the VC++ Toolkit only you are going to have to get the Platform SDK so it really isn't going to change things as far as downloading goes.

Hmmmmm, mabye I should get that instead. On your post above you say that you would recommend that ultimatly and I assume that that means it is better right? Oh yeah does the VS Express beta have an optimizing compiler? I guess that I'll try the beta before the real thing.thanx
