Is Game Beavers Dead?

by Chip Lambert · in General Discussion · 06/22/2004 (9:39 pm) · 24 replies

Has anyone been able to get any downloads from GameBeavers.org? Any time I try to download one of the shared assests from the forums, there is a PHP error. I've contacted the site admins, posted on the forums themselves, but no answer as if the site is dead. Anyone know of the status of the site?

Thanks.

In IE, I get: "Cannot find server or DNS Error"

And in Firefox, I get a pop-up that says, "www.gamebeavers.org could not be found. Please check the name and try again."

Weird. I wonder if perhaps my ISP is blocking it for whatever reason? That haven't been spamming lately, have they? ;):P

Well, Britton has haunted these forum long enough now, don't you think ?? ;D

[EDIT]
*For my sake, Britton better be all-right, man what a complete idiot I would be if something actually had happened to him*

I think I found my problem: I believe SpybotS&D was actually blocking the website from my loading. I have no idea why.

Seems to work fine now. :)

I just downloaded a chair from Official Files, just to test. Got a PHP error in New Files. I'll e-mail Britton about it.

Britton is the main keeper of Game Beavers, now he has a daytime job and things slowed down. But we're not dead.

Yeah, we made a server move recently. Uploading and downloading the new files does ave a php error related to user permissions. Still working on that. We are not dead, infact we will be growing again soon. The past month has been killer busy at work. Day jobs do take alot away from game development.

I'd expect the site to be back in working order in a few weeks. I just cant handle the load at the moment but that will change.

Thanks for the info Britton. I'm very skilled with PHP, so if you ever need some help in that area, I'd be more than happy to contribute to the community in that way.

MaxGaming might be able to help you with the dotproject thing, Britton. Lemme ask Adrian if he has any time, he's done it a couple times.

Beaver Patrol Alpha 1.3 is looking good. Mountable vehicles that take damage and explode are working. We have power ups, missle launchers that have target lock and a lot more. Its quickly become a full featured game. Still Alpha so it does have a few bugs... not too bad though. Here is a pic of the new jet pack and a jet flying over head:

So far we have had lots of itneterst in the Building's Dev kit, just thought I'd post an update to let you guys get started before we release the content pack.

Most of the standard .map files are in the 1.3 release in the interiors directory.
The castle is here (click the download link under the picture):
Note... you'll need to set a width variable for the diff in the engine code for the castle. The width is very small in some places.
Stock Torque will blow up, but the Beaver Patrol Code base should handle it.

And the some of the other maps are here:

Don't forget the textures:

We should have several other buildings packaged and ready in the next couple of weeks.

According to the rules of GameBeavers, you have to be a co-owner/liscenced member. (sign a contract, submit 3 assets that are voted on to be accepted)

If you are not a liscenced member, maybe Britton will charge you money for the pack... I don't know.

It was down yesterday Jan 19 at least. As there was no DNS resolution happening at all on the domain. I'm going to guess that the amped labs server was down and had to be rebooted.

@LabRat,

Yeah it was down on the 19th... like unplugged.

They were doing some maintenance at www.ev1servers.net ... switching out power plugs.
Hmmm. Usually great service... guess they forgot to put the new plug in.

Not dead yet anyway.

@George,

GB stuff will always be trade and barter do something to help the group effort and its yours.... working on automating the sign up and licensing.

Until we get it automated we arent chasing anyone down for contribution. For now doing something like posting a link on your website to Game Beavers should be enough. We started the site to help indies get moving not to get in the way. Just say hey "what a great idea" with a link to GB 3 times in different forums here at GG or on other game sites and that should be good enough.

For now just create an account and post your advertising links in our forums and we'll call it a deal.

www.gamebeavers.org

We just dont have the resources to dedicate to GB right now... no sense in letting it gather dust.
