"Mark all as Read" is treacherous ;-)

Tell me if I'm doing something wrong here: I usually come onto the site, click "Unread Posts" and then proceed to read through them. Once I'm done, I click "Mark all as Read". The problem with that is that if someone has posted anything while I'm reading through the later threads, it also gets flagged as read and I won't see it unless another person posts later.

I just click "mark all as read" first, then open all the threads I want to read in sep tabs/windows and read at my leisure.

Ok, maybe I should do that instead. Seems a little bit counter-intuitive though. ;-) Thanks guys.

There's on disadvantage to doing it that way, I've noticed. When you open the threads, you won't get those red bullets that show which posts are new.

The "bug" should really be that when you open a thread, it doesn't mark the thread as read. The ONLY way I know of to mark a thread as read is to use "Mark All as Read".-nerseus

Hmm, to me it seems the behavior of "Mark all as read" has changed from the previous site implementation. With the old site, it discarded all unread messages up to a certain point in the stream of posts. Posts that made it to the system after this point were not discarded, though.
This change is kind of unfortunate as it let's you miss all posts between fetching unread posts and pressing the mark all as read button. Getting the old behavior back would be great.
All in all, this new site has evolved into something really awesome and is still continuing to improve.

...it currently washes them away when it should use something along the accords of at least a timestamp check.

There are also other bugs associated with the "View all Unread", one such being that certain forum categories don't show up when you go to see what the unread posts/threads are.

Mark as read should use the date the unread posts page was generated as the most recent point to find posts from.
