Interresting waterblock issue

I had a strange problem the other day. I had a basement in my building. But for some reason, when I go down into some rooms I see my character movement slows WAYYYY DOWN. After hours of frustration, I finaly came to thee conclusion that I think Torque is getting confused and is slowing down my character the second it drops below my water block in another area of the map. I looked and I dont see any areas from that water block over-lapping my basement. I had been under the impression to count as WATER, you would have to actualy be IN THE WATER, not just below the water height in the terrain.

**Excuse me, I have a torquedemo app that was compiled from a head code in april... didn't change my original wording, above, so whoever comes in later wil know why I'm being called names ;o)

Is this fixed yet? I have a cvs head from april**, and I just noticed it with a mountain lake that extends the water properties outside the mountain... ;o)**Excuse me, I have a torquedemo app that was compiled from a head code in april... didn't change my original wording, above, so whoever comes in later wil know why I'm being called names ;o)

If you've got the engine code, you can apply the fix if it suits your needs. It is quite simple. Please go here and search for my name. You'll see a snippet of code which, when found in the engine and modified should help you. Sorry to be so vague, but I'm not happy with the soln and I'm pretty sure you will be able to resolve this if you have the code. When I get done writing, I'll be sure to go back and address this issue. There are other side-effects you're probably not seeing to, like water fog disappearing when you are at the bottom of a block and looking down.
Anyways, best of luck and sorry that this is not yet fixed!

Personally I think it's pretty stupid to admit you have a CVS HEAD version when you don't have an SDK license. But most of the SDK thieves are not the brightest bunch, are they?

@Phillip Lynx: You're the artist in your team, if you want to touch the SDK you need to buy a license. Your programming crew do not have the rights to give you the SDK after they have bought it, it's license infrigment.

In fact, since you obviously looked at the profile, you should of caught this, his only other post on these forums (at the time of me writing this, anyway): www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=19005

It never ceases to amaze me how people jump to conclusions around here. Philip never actually said he had the source code, just a cvs head version. How do you know his programmers didnt compile it for him ?In fact, since you obviously looked at the profile, you should of caught this, his only other post on these forums (at the time of me writing this, anyway): www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=19005

That's the thread I based my reply on. He said he had the SDK, simple as that.
Nothing to turn into an argumentation, though - as that simply wasn't intended.

Thomas, and a CVS head version = the SDK, no?That's the thread I based my reply on. He said he had the SDK, simple as that.

That being said, in Phillips post he said....
"I don't own a license, but our programmers do."
Ask Phillip why his "programmers" are leaving him hanging on a 6 month old version of TGE when they could easily compile him a new HEAD version. After all, that is the programmers job. Ask phillip why his programmers can't post in the PRIVATE SDK forum about his problem so they could get some real answers. That is after all what the SDK forum is for.
You may see some innocent guy being falsely accussed, but I see a guy who has posted 2 posts in 6 months and BOTH posts call into question his legality in using TGE.

Nearly anyone that uses the term "CVS HEAD" is referring to the fact that they used a CVS system to aquire a HEAD version. Rarely do the words CVS come up with non SDK owners when describing what they are using. Most come forward with "I'm using the latest demo and...."That being said, in Phillips post he said....

If I run into a problem, I try to find the answer to it, so I can show them "Hey, look at this link, there's a fix for this problem in the code, please go re-compile this for me with this fix". rather than "I can't make this work, just fix it..."
But whatever
Thanks Edward, for the reference, I will pass that on

Gee thanks, I have read enough docs in the past year to know when the version I have is from, and what it's called, as to why I haven't a newer compiled version is because our programmers are slow, and progress is slow on our project. why do I want to bother with asking for a newer compiled version of the torquedemo app if the version I have has been suitable up till now? Especially with slow programmers that we have?If I run into a problem, I try to find the answer to it, so I can show them "Hey, look at this link, there's a fix for this problem in the code, please go re-compile this for me with this fix". rather than "I can't make this work, just fix it..."

What Docs would those be? First of all, none of the docs here refer to any version as CVS HEAD or CVS RELEASE. Secondly, the version you most likely have is Release_1_2_2, funny how nothing you read told you that.
"why do I want to bother with asking for a newer compiled version of the torquedemo app if the version I have has been suitable up till now?"
Because it will cure a lot of problems you may not have realized you have. Because it very well could cure problems you know you have. Because it's obviously much better and offers you less bugs, more features, and more options.
"If I run into a problem, I try to find the answer to it, so I can show them "Hey, look at this link, there's a fix for this problem in the code, please go re-compile this for me with this fix"."
Then judging from your 3 posts here, you have only run into one problem that you can't find a cure for, right? That's pretty amazing considering that almost ALL engine problems are solved in forums that YOU cannot see with a public account. And not only that, but you didn't have to ask anyone for help on them either. Finally, despite what Edward and Tom may think or feel, I know that the GG staff very much frowns upon anyone sharing SDK code help or advice with a NON SDK owner in the public forums no matter what they claim the status of their programmers to be.

I had the same issue with waterblocks and followed the "keep it simple" rule to solve it -- simply changing the level design as a work-around. If an entire section of a level is elevated, it can seem like you're going into the "basement" by relativity, even though the water is well below it, but at another part of the level. I know that's not best answer but I found it to work fine for my purposes.

@Philip: Edward is helpful because he is a GG associate, defined by GG as follows:Quote:"...above all be helpful and willing to share their knowledge with the community through the forums or IRC. A professional attitude is expected when interacting with others in the community. Associates are looked up to by other community members, so it is important to present a good example of how a professional developer should interact with their peers."
