$100 "Indie" Lic.=multipule installs on computer?

by 'Sidikian' · in Torque Game Engine · 04/03/2004 (2:07 pm) · 7 replies

I just bought the $100 "Indie" licence and I was wondering if it'd be ok if I used cvs to download the current stable verion of torque game engine in more than one spot on my pc as a back up incase I mess up one install by accident. Or to use cvs to download the head to one spot and the stable version to another. Or if my pc crashes and I have to reformat and I lose the torque engine scripts on my pc can I redownload them by using my account number or my receipt through my email?

Yes thats fine.

The license is $100 per programmer. That one programmer can have as many different versions or install as he wants. As long as that one programmer is the ONLY one using them.

Just download it once then backup the directory, there's nothing special about a 'CVS' version. You can get a full set of files only a set amount of times of a specific time period (using my amazingly bad memory I believe 5 times and 30 days has been quoted).

So if your PC goes belly up, then you can download it again. I personally keep regular CD-R backups, since losing my work would be somewhat 'disheartening'.

The license isn't concerned at all about how many copies you have, just that only licencee's have access to it.

For example:
You need to compile the program you made to run on three different platforms: Mac, Windows, Linux. You get 3 machines and 3 compilers and compile the code on 3 different machines. Or if you intend on the platform being Windows, but use Linux for stability. There are many differnet reasons to install multiple times even on different platforms. If you read the license you will see that the wording is centered around developers/seats. Many other software licenses are concerned about installations to control the number of seats. Garagegames assumes the licensed developers have integrity.

Are terrain Editors or mission editors (not using or editing scripts in Torque) excempted from the indie-license?

The license covers the C++ code. They aren't C++ code, so they're free to use.
