Spellchecking of Forum posts

Many people would benefit from a "spellcheck post" button. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes (particularly at 2 AM), but some people have some real problems with spelling. The spelling errors cause other people to completely ignore their posts.

Steve, I think it's helpful. Lazy grammar indicates lazy people, and is also an indicator of the age and seriousness of the person. People who know what they're talking about will seem like it even through a couple of typos. Do we want to give the lazy ones the camoflauge they need to slip past our BS-meters? ;)

I have to agree with Ted. On this one. Simple transposition spelling errors are not a problem in an forum environment. Most puncuation errors can be overlooked as long as they don't change the semantics.

Lazy grammer is a good indication of whether the person is worth responding to.

And there is a definate difference between the "english is not their native language" posters ( bravo for you ) and the "victim of the public school system" posters that are too lazy or have an entitlement complex and attitude that they can't be bothered to post conherent readable text.

If you can't take the time to post a readable conherent question ( and you are a native english speaker ) why should anyone spend the time to answer it.

I am learning Japanese right now, and let me tell you I really appreciate what people have to go thru to learn English as a second language if they are coming from a more strictly and uniformly defined language with fixed rules and few exceptions.

I implemented spellchecking on my own forum software, and it was much more of a pain than a saviour.

If i'm posting anything large it always goes via word these days :)

Something for Jarrod :) I do like the idea it presents :)

Edit : Oh the irony.
