I have started to research multiplayer game programming and have only been able to find one forum/messageboard on the subject(www.gamedev.net/community/forums/forum.asp?forum_id=15). Perhaps we could add one here under Technical. Something I am very interested in finding out are some of the different networking schemes used in the game development industy like TCP or UDP, Synchronous or Asynchronous, Blocking or Non-Blocking? I am particularily interested in finding out good ways to develop a networking scheme that is easily ported across platforms. I have seen the Tribes networking document in the Resources but haven't had time to read it yet (this weekend maybe?) I have been trying to find source code for different games and looking at how they did their networking (like the source for Quake 1). I have a pretty solid grasp of the theory behind network programming and I have done some small Winsock programming in the past (I made an IM clone =) but I am trying to discover how to best apply this knowledge to multiplayer games. Once I have finished my research and have implemented a good network framework, I hope to write a few tutorials (no promises yet =).
