Reference Scale for WC Users

by Tyler Frans · in Torque Game Engine · 08/24/2001 (1:09 am) · 9 replies

Here's a scale I did for T2 models to help with rough estimates on building with World Craft. The measurements are in actual pixels(same as WC units) so it should make tailoring textures and creating well fit doorways (etc) a little easier. Hope it helps.

That'll come in very handy.

Good work!

Neat Idea, how did you go about building the Scale?

I would like to reproduce this for my Worldcraft editing needs. If you could post the .rmf or .map (and textures) I'm sure the community would be appreciative!!

Thanks!

Remember tho that the mission editor built into the engine can scale whole objects as well.

Correct, this was just for those who were using the default scaling of T2. I don't have the prefabs on my HD anymore, but you can get the scale.png here.

Thanks for the .png Tyler, with your permission I would like to take this, build the "WC Ruler" and then repost it for the community.

Personally, I've always wanted to "measure" stuff in the in-game editor. It's a great concept.

It answers that inevitable question, "how big to make that hanger door?"

I hate to double post, and I did just post on this subject at 7141, but you guys look to have worked this out, but there was never a follow up post with the resource. Did one of you create this scale resource for WC and if so, can you post it?

Thanks,

Ed

Awesome (wow.. and an old post, too)!

Does this apply to pretty much any other editor, too? Like Hammer or Cartography Shop? I've been trying to figure this out for some time now.

I've made a reference block in the editor to the size you show the player being (160h x 128w from what I can see in your screenshots). If it's the same scale in those other programs, the scale I've been working in has definitely been too small.. as I've suspected.

Is that a reliable reference for those editors as well?

Thanks...

Michael, my fav method to keeping all interiors at a proper scale: Test and retest one small room. Once you've got it perfect, make a simple block that would be the equivalent of 10'x10'x10' or 3mx3mx3m, and save it as a prefab. I also have one door saved as a prefab, and I'll stack it against my interiors doors to make sure they all are the same size.
Quark (heh) allows you to save prefabs as toolbar icons. I think most other editors have an almost as easy method though.
