Online dedicated server list, instead of a live master server?

I want to make a simple .txt file and host it on my website and list a few online server Ips and be able to update it as needed, so when players start the game a function in the client server browser will download the list or read it online from the url. Has anyone ever thought of doing this instead of creating a master server? If yes can you give me some advice or code?

Why not use the built in master server system?

I Would if it worked with Legions Overdrive http://forums.legionsoverdrive.com/

Added code that lets me connect to a server by Ip, and save it to my prefs.. I am running an older version of Legions Overdrive, and the current master server for Legions overdrive works.. But i don't want to use theirs because the games crash if connecting to different game version.. Also the current Legions Overdrive, devs will just ban my older game from their master server..
