An alternative bulletin board?

Looks super sexy. If we could get GarageGames' SSO to work with it, I think we'd be well on a way to a proper community home for T3D. Of course, the masses of legacy content here are still a problem that bears thinking about.

nodebb just crawls and causes firefox to lag when scrolling like typical Microsoft forums do. Just terrible..

Looks like yet another heavily overused/abused javascript driven web portal that is very slow and hogs up CPU time that provides less usability than a regular HTML driven forum does. I think GG's is perfectly fine, just needs some bugs fixed (known for years, sadly) and new spam prevention changes.nodebb just crawls and causes firefox to lag when scrolling like typical Microsoft forums do. The thing is, when you've got bots posting in the boards that's just gonna leave a bad taste in people's mouths. Some cleanup around this, with perhaps some skin options for those who might enjoy a little 'flash' could go a long way. Maybe even default the skin to something updated, but allow the option to revert to the 'classic' skin.

I've heard it said before, and have experienced it myself from time to time. The GG forums have ESP. I was literally just thinking to myself this morning about how some sort of updates to the boards could work wonders for our presentation of community...and here is Daniel posting about it. I believe that staying true to the spirit of Torque, there isn't much reason to update much graphically or with more 'flash'. Nathan sums it up perfectly:Quote:I think GG's is perfectly fine, just needs some bugs fixed (known for years, sadly) and new spam prevention changes.

I know that Mich and Scott frequently brought up issues with the site, but there were just never enough hours in the day.
I would like to see these bugs and issues addressed as well, but I try to see the bright side - at least we have a hosted forum to use....

I feel that GG would fix these issues if they had the resources. When I was working there we were swamped with work and it seemed that hiring enough web developers was impossible. There was a standing opening for one for the whole 18 months I was there. And the GG site is nowhere near as maintainable as T2D/T3D judging by the ruckus I heard out of the web devs' offices. It would take a full time guy a while to get up to speed, then fix the bugs - probably a full time job for over a year.I know that Mich and Scott frequently brought up issues with the site, but there were just never enough hours in the day.

Otherwise, get the latest, pertinent, resources and start fresh. 80% of the stuff on these forums is so old and useless I don't think I'd want to burden a new system with it anyway do you?
Maybe a fresh start is the best idea and format the new forums a bit better. Apparently, these forums will still be around for some time to come for those who need to dig something out for TGEA.
Get a Blog link set up and some other stuff that people come here to check a lot and people will start coming to the new site for the latest news.
Maybe GG could even lock these forums from any new posts. That would be the end of that story...lol
