First person melee animation question

Hey everybody quick question here, I'm not an artist so this may be an easy answer to those who are. Im trying to create some melee weapons using the source art from the solder weapon pack as my starting point and Im just going to link the weapon mesh (crowbar, bat etc.) to the hand bone and animate it.
I am running into an issue with the setup of the whole thing. I selected everything and deleted all the keyframes and tried to move the right hand around but it stays static. It seems that there is some kind of hand_aim node that controls where the hands are aimed at. For melee this isn't ideal. I have no idea how disable this node from controlling everything and unlocking the hand node for movement. Any suggestions will help, and remember that I'm not an artist so fancy controls hidden in Max will need explanations.
Thanks!
