Maybe some of you remember this picture I posted in September 2013. It's a screenshot from the adventure video game I'm currently developing. What you see here are Ukraine soldiers in the South-Western part of the Crimea (near Sebastopol). When finished, the player will spend a bigger amount of time at that location.

If you have followed the world news you'd probably learned that Russian forces have now invaded the Crimea. You might understand now why I'm unpleasantly surprised, absorbing any news I can get right now, as well I could expect this to happen in a way, since I learned a lot about the Crimea after years of study! I even know 'every inch' of some parts of it, as I'm building it into 3d worlds for the player to freely roam in. Sorry I can't spoil too much about the story behind the game and I'm afraid that some parts of the story will need to be adapted in the near future. That game design could be this fluid, I never could have imagine.

I don't want to involve politics to this project but I do want to say sincerely that I whish calmness, freedom and stability for all the people living in the Ukraine, and that aggression and bloodshed can be avoided at all cost!

Note: Needless to say that these forums aren't the place for political comments and certainly unwanted in this thread!

This game looks fantastic. I love the bails of hay that explode when hit and alter velocity depending on initial speed. I can see this turning into something that a lot of people will be eager to play soon. I love the fact that you put in real locations to explore. I think this was a brilliant idea.
Additionally, I hope that bloodshed can be avoided at all costs as well. I am very upset to what is happening, and I fear for the people on all sides of this escalation.

Your project is shaping up nicely - and there is a ton of attention to detail. Well done!

Thanks for the compliments; I didn't really post this thread for that reason though.

The development of the storyline (it's an adventure game) began 4 years ago. I picked a handful locations over the world, but the Crimea is the main location. It's an beautiful area with a typical Black Sea environment. Normally, it's a very quiet area with the Russian naval base as the only exiting spot; only partly the reason to have that as the set for a game. This part of the world, which for most people was unknown until a few days ago; has a very interesting history up to several thousands years back.

If the situation changes drastically, the storyline for this modern time adventure will be incorrect and the set will need to change. If the whole Crimea remains to be a Russian military stronghold then the changes will be that drastic as well. I guess this can happen when you pick real locations for a modern time game. But who could have thought of it, when the original environment was that peaceful and quiet?

Further will this game might create strong mixed feelings in the future, which I tried to avoid all this time. It's not a shooter with Syria or Afghanistan as decor, or something like that. In a few days, this became something hot and unpredictable; an aspect of game design I never consider it could be a part of it.
