Hi folks, at WLE we are developing our game Dawn of Ascension and are looking for a Technical Artist to join our expanding team to help setup our characters and models in game. We have a team of modelers and engine programmers but we need a Technical Artists to work as an interface between the artists and the engine to get the models, specifically characters and vehicles working in the engine correctly.

We have not posted a great deal on the GG site about Dawn of Ascension as we have been developing a great deal of the technical aspects of our character creation system for sometime now to get it working technically rather than making it look beautiful. If it doesn't function then its not going anywhere. Well, after a considerable amount of time developing the system we have succeeded in getting WLE's character system working where clothing can be interchanged to a great degree of functionality and variety. We are now therefore starting on the full modelling process and have characters and clothing progressing very well. Our modelers are making some fantastic characters and armour/clothing sets and out animators producing the base movements for the characters. However we now need the next step in the pipeline to get these functioning correctly in the engine and out of development stages into proper setups. We therefore need a Technical Artist.

We are looking for someone who is competent in the engine and wants to develop a key role at WLE setting our characters up in the engine, as well as other aspects of technical development including incorporating the animation and mounting of weapons as well as general character movement controls etc. We are looking for someone who is able to give a fair degree of commitment and time to the project as this will be a fundamental interface in the development of Dawn of Ascension artists and the engine/programming team. Here are some images from the latest WIP. Still a lot to be set up for the characters, particularly shaders but we are moving in the right direction we feel.

It would assist it you were conversant in C# also as this is what we will be looking to move towards soon for the production of the game.

If you are interested in finding out more about this opportunity and would like to discuss this further please drop me an email at tim.watton [at] winterleafentertainment[dot]com and we can discuss this further.

What do you mean about setting up shaders for the characters? I didn't know that was an option.

we are looking at developing a skin shader for OMNI for the characters so things don't look so 'plastic'
