World Machine splat maps

Has anyone tried to use World Machine splat maps with Torque 3D terrains? I'm trying to integrate, without any success, based on this workflow for Unity: www.world-machine.com/learn.php?page=workflow&workflow=wfunity
I know that some people here use World Machine, as well GeoControl, to create terrains. But have you guys used splat maps?

I'm interested in doing this myself and am looking for feedback on the
process. World Machine exports in .bmp and am curious as to how to implement those as a basetex. WM puts out some fantastic textures that blow away the stock stuff or even custom terrain textures I've tried.
When importing a heightmap Torque asks for what looks like an RGB texture (.bmp?) but when I take a 3 layer RGB .bmp from WM to put there
I get nothing.
