XNA Development?

by Rarw Muffinz · in Torque 3D Professional · 09/22/2013 (3:53 pm) · 7 replies

Hey folks,
I was wondering if there is a way to use my Torque programs for XNA development (Windows Phone, Xbox360, Etc). If so would it use Torque 3D, 2D, or both.
Thanks,

Torque3D as well as Torque 2D are C++ engines. They do not work with XNA. However, there was TorqueX, which was an engine built for XNA, but I don't think you can still buy it.

A solution was used to be sold for like $99 bucks

Taking TX down didn't have anything to do with a contractor dispute.

I couldn't even see a mention of XNA in that Reddit thread. What was the quote?

"why did the support of tourque x stop?"

"We received a cease and desist letter from a former GarageGames contractor who is now selling a competing engine. Unfortunately, we didn't keep good records back in the day and I didn't have a copy of a signed agreement in our archives. Funny thing was, he didn't have one either. So we didn't legally have the right to sell it. The cost to replace it was way beyond the revenue that the engine would provide so we had to remove it. I would have preferred to provide it so that more people could join the community, but it was the legal issues that prevented that.

Secondarily, GarageGames needed to reduce our product offering so that we could be a more focused company. Even though we've shed a lot of older products, we still have that challenge today."

So I kind of understood that was the reason.

Oh, I see. I couldn't find it because it was spelled "Tourque X". I wasn't aware of the first part about the contractor. Sounds a little off. The main reason in my mind was his second statement. We had to consolidate our efforts, which mean dropping all the other engines to focus on Torque 2D and Torque 3D, which still spread us thin.
