port games?

by Melissa Golobish · in Torque 3D Beginner · 09/01/2013 (7:31 pm) · 9 replies

So, someone was asking me about porting...and I had no idea how to answer that

So, can Torque 3d port to other things, other then windows related?

That, am also wondering about the next gen consoles?

As far as I'm aware, the code is there to port to the current generation of consoles, but you'll need to get a license from the console owner (which is quite expensive) in order to actually develop on the consoles.

guess, my best bet would be to use Unity

"guess, my best bet would be to use Unity"

thats right.
+i heard,even u manage a license,u will have to deal with lots of issues between t3d and console part.

better go for u3d.

Song Yongjin ported T3D to Android and iOS.
And T3D is already being ported to Linux which opens up the doors for porting to a bunch of other platforms since the Linux port will include an openGL port.

As for Xbox and PlayStation, you have to get a license for those platforms even if you are on Unity, and it's a mess to get working on. They are both looking to improve afaik, but at the moment I'm not sure it's the way to before you are "established" so to speak.

@Lukas

Has Song Yongjin released this on github? In that case do you have a link?

@DK not that I know of, but he said he would somewhere around this summer.
