"King of the List" no one better than BEN(SA)?

by Bill (aka Him) · in ThinkTanks · 10/16/2003 (7:56 am) · 226 replies

Time for Ben(SA) to step up and take a few challenges
Ben if you can't defend your title we will have to find
a new king.

KING of THE LIST
A king is declare and takes challenges until defeated (Simple)

Rules: Once you have challenged a king and you lose you can not challenge again until there is a new king. This "all or nothing" should narrow down the field and establish a fairly stable king who is deserving of the title.

This only requires coordination between two players at a time. A tenative time limit of four days from challenge there must be a match, if the current king does not respond to a challenge then he forfits to the challenger. If one of the players is a "no show" then he forfits that match. The first player with three "no shows" for a match forfits the challenge. That way you don't get too penalized for having to work late or take out the trash.

Keep in mind that if enough people are about, that several challenges could occur one right after the other.

The King of the list will be tracked here in this thread. Please show some constraint in your posting and clean up dead posts.

I think it would be kinda fun. But make this clear. It's scrum right? Then how do you plan to do one on one scrum? That's pretty boring. Maybe someone should make it a battlemode challenge since the scrum players like Azazel, FoulPlay, Tally Ho and so on will kill you in scrum Filbert.

This is battlemode, not scrum. And I might be able to do it on the weekend. The first challenger, Drew, can not do it until the weekend anyway--making it OK for me to be first king.

I challenge Drews Challenge on Saturday at 7:30 PM. drew, do you yeild to that date?

And what about viewers? It would be nice to have one SOBER person in their with us. I think it should be you, him, since you would not mess it up. That person would NEVER shoot, and would make sure the winner actually won. He would stay next to the battle and see that everything was OK. Him, would you take that job?

And that PM is in which time zone Filbert?

Plus I never said I was in, but since I've been "volunteered" sure I'm ready. Whenever you can fit me in post it here.

Ben(SA)

And by the way, what about multiple observers? I would like to watch for sure, and I certainly SOBER enough to be there. Just wondering.

I know YOU are, but the more people did watch, the more people would want to, and eventually it would be a mess. That is why I think only Him should do it, since it was his idea, (and maybe me too, since I am the first king??) Him can decide about me. Perhaps Ben, since you are So respected by everyone, you too could get in with out it escalading. him decides all. (maybe no watchers at all, we will see)

Drew, where are you and how about Cranium Crater, like our last one on one...when I beat you! (I have lost skill since I've been grounded for a bit!)

There is not intended to be a "score". You are either King or not. Once you lose a challenge as King you are nothing again. The theory is that the best player will challenge his was into the King position, since you can only challenge a king once if he/she is really the best then all challengers will be defeated and then that player will truly be the uncontested KOTL. After there are no more viable challengers the king could retire to the Hall of Kings and we could start over. I do see players managing to be King more than once but suspect that will dwindle down as the skill level of the Kings works it way up to the best players.
Not to belabor this to much but here is a quick example of how I see it (names used for convience nothing implied)

Filbert is king and wins againts Drew.
Drew may not challenge Filbert again.
Filbert loses to Racer445 (whats the 445?).
Racer is now the King.
Filbert may not challenge Racer but Drew can.
Racer continues to win each challenge. At some point there will be no more viable challengers since essentially everyone will have already tried once. Racer would truly be King as no one could best him. But, being the sporting kind of guy he is he retires and lets the process start over. (sequel could be a King of Kings?)

BTW I don't mean to make this gender biased so if Queen is more appropiate for a particular player just let me know.

This is fun, Him. Thanks for bringing the idea. I will try to be there saturday to watch (as in 'admiring crowds gathering for the KOTL challenge'). Keep the topmost post up to date - easier way to see what is whom is where is when.

Why not do teams instead of one-on-one? have the person with the most kills on the winning team be made king..?

Filbert, down boy down

As far as Scrum vs BM I have never tried scrum one on one so I don't know how that would go. My goal
really was to keep this simple and have the two players hash out the details. I suppose if both agreed you could do scrum instead of BM. In order for this to work we need to work as a community. I made a couple of changes to the rules above to help clarify.

Someday teams might work. We could slowly expand with maybe doubles play and triples ect ect. I suggested the one on one becuase it seemed that the leagues where having trouble getting a large number of people coordinated.

My feeling is still that the two players negotiate the terms of the challenge. If a problem arises we as a group can help resolve it. Remember the goal is to have FUN. In order to establish a long run as King you will need to be good at TT, not the light on H Hills, or a heavy in BM, but TT anywhere, anytime, anyway. Simply the best.
