Spam!

Lots of spam is coming of recent, we need a way to stop this from happening to help preserve the image of GG and T3D/T2D.
We got the character display thingy, but we need the first firsts/blogs etc to be moderated? Or to allow some community members to hide spam until GG staff are available to remove it.

I didn't know they needed another developer, I hope they find one soon. If I was in America I would be keen to put my hand up.
But as I am in Australia, I am willing to put my hand up to support the website a bit during the Australian hours :-).

Yeah Spam is becoming a greater issue on the site though and it does detract from our community.I didn't know they needed another developer, I hope they find one soon. If I was in America I would be keen to put my hand up.

There's not really much more that can be done over what we already have in place, in terms of preventative measures, without impacting normal discussion negatively. We have an awesome nuke button Zach built for us moderators a while back which lets us clean up with one button click.

Additionally, if you recognize any companies that are getting advertise from these jerk spammer, I highly suggest the following:
1. E-mail the owners of the product being spammed
2. Find their Facebook page and blast their involvement in spammers
3. Find their Twitter and Google+ page, then blast them for using spammers
I've been doing this lately and have started seeing less and less spam from certain products. What's going on is a lot of piddly net companies are paying one service to help with advertising. That service then outsources the work to spammers, so there is no direct connection between the product owners and the people they paid money to for helping with advertisement.
Some feign ignorance, most know the truth. I simply say this:
"PLEASE STOP HIRING SPAMMERS TO PEDDLE YOUR SITE/SERVICES/PRODUCT ON OUR WEBSITE. I WILL SPREAD THE WORD THAT YOU ARE SPAMMING LEGITIMATE WEBSITES UNTIL THE SPAM STOPS!"
Time to annoy the people who pay the spammers.

Simon has been helping me nuke spammers as they post. If you happen to spot spam before it gets deleted, send me an e-mail. It takes me one second to nuke their entire account. Also, remember this: www.garagegames.com/company/employment. GG has been looking for an additional web dev for MONTHS. Last update I was tracking, they have just one guy and I am fairly certain they have to let him go home occasionally, or at least let him sleep in his cubby :-)
