Ron Kapauns Tropical Rain Forest Pack - Blocked!

by Richard Hebblewhite · in Site Feedback · 03/04/2013 (4:28 am) · 13 replies

FYI:
I've just been trying to download Ron's pack from my product area - it's currently blocked as a virus download (the links are dead). The other packs don't seem to be affected as far as I can see.

Cheers!

Say what! Thanks for the info I will get with the guys at GG and try and figure it out. What browser etc. are you using?

Ron

UPDATE (7:05am central standard time): I downloaded the files from my products page and scanned them. I found no issue. I will keep digging though.

Hey Ron,

I'm using IE at the moment. This is what I get:

Virus Download Blocked

Download of the virus has been blocked in accordance with company policy. Please contact your system administrator if you believe this is in error.

File name: download.garagegames.com

It only seems to be this particular pack though... I've tested some random others (including your Savannah and Pine Forest - they're ll fine).

UPDATE: I've tested it with the Google Chrome and the issue is the same!

Thanks Richard. I will check again with IE and see if I can replicate it.

Ron

Update (7:30 am Central Standard Time): So far I can not replicate the situation with IE, Chrome, or Firefox. Tests were conducted on version 2.0. I am assuming that is the pack you were trying to get?

Yep - I was trying to get version 2.0, but version 1 doesn't work either! Very strange, as everything else in my product list is fine!

I'm about to try using a different computer - I'll update you in a few!

UPDATE: Same issue when using a different PC. Just that particular product too... So there's definitely some kind of issue with it. Could it be my location ? Just wondering if anyone else in my neck of the woods has this problem.

Are you in an office? Seems like some download policy (active directory) on a network or something that is stopping the download, or IE9 restrictions?

What AntiVirus do you use, and do you have the web browser toolbar enabled on them for the AV product?

Hey Jules,

Yeah I'm currently at work - I thought it might be that too, but I've never had this issue before plus all of the other products on my account are absolutely fine! Bizarre that it's only this particular product.

BTW, I'm using McAfee VScan Plus - No tool bars or other features enabled. In fact, I've disabled it entirely just to try and the problem remains!

When I get back home I'll try again - I just find it odd that I can't get at just 1 out of 20 or so products from my account!

That is strange. There is nothing significantly different about the pack format either. Let me know if you have issues from home or if you figure out anything else on it....Honestly, except for the 'at work' network thing, I can't replicate the issue.

My guess would be that it is something specific to your scanner, especially if the web scan tools are enabled as separate processes and not disabled by default when you disable the scanning interface since they run as separate processes. My first thought was that the web scanner did not like the generated URL from your account since I've seen false positives on generated URL's from both McAfee and Norton, but if you can download other products using the URL's, then that's not the issue. I'm not seeing anything here or that it is on a threat scan at McAfee, so I'm not sure why it's having difficulty in your instance.

Right - I've tried again from home and the problem seems to have disappeared! Huzzah!

Absolutely no idea why my connection from work didn't seem to like that one product - it struck me as odd due to the fact that all of my other GG products were absolutely fine. Ghosts in the machine I guess...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Well, it was an odd issue, but as long as you got the pack and you're happy with it, I guess that is what matters. Still an interesting and strange problem. Maybe Tropical Rain Forest is another word for virus in the UK ;-) LoL.

It's the word "tropical" ... we don't have a translation for it in British English. ;o)

LOL....Steve. You crack me up.

It probably translates to "hot and wet sh!t" so the virus blockers treated it as a bad program.
