T2D Android and Ouya kickstarter launched

by Michael Perry · in Torque 2D Beginner · 03/01/2013 (6:00 am) · 11 replies

Max Gaming Technologies has launched a kickstarter to fund an android port of T2D MIT as well as a port for the Ouya. Everyone who backs the project at $25 or more will get access to the port once it is complete. Everyone else will have to wait 6 months for the port to go open source MIT on Github. They also offer some support at the different tiers and the final Ouya port will be delayed until they get access to a console but they will give early access based off the SDK before that. MGT will also be porting the default toys that come with T2D as well. Any and all donations are welcomes, please help them bring this great engine to the android platform.

UPDATE 1

Linux Support
Quote:As part of the intial funding we will be adding Linux support for T2D as part of the package. Thanks to "TRON" from the Garagegames community for contributing to help add to T2D MIT list of platforms.

UPDATE 2

I (Mich) will create five new modules just for people who contribute to the campaign. Three will offer new functionality, while the other two will be asset packs. These new modules will not be added to the main Torque 2D repositories.

Based on past experience and review of previously available GG store items, the value should easily be over $50. The modules themselves are the kind of add-ons anyone would grab immediately to speed up their game development. So, there you have it. Something for everyone! Of course, the one catch is that you need to be able to prove you made a contribution =).

We just posted this Update for a free Linux port.

Since we really want this to succeed and get Torque 2D out on as many platforms as possible we are going to offer Linux support as a free bonus. Nathan Martin (TRON in irc) has offered to help me (Tim Newell, Tim-MGT in irc) do the port. Being free there will be no support for the Linux version outside of the community as this is an effort by me and Nathan and not Max Gaming. We will however get the Linux version in the same state as the rest of the platforms. So help us spread the word to anyone looking to make Linux games so that we can reach our goal and expand the number of Torque 2D platforms.

Posted it on the github wiki a week ago.

Just posted it on the IGDA Seattle facebook game developer group. It's a fairly active group in what is probably the largest town of game devs (including indies). Here's hoping!

Also, if anyone else have access to a local board that may be interested, post away!

I would post this on the following sites -

http://ouyaforum.com - Filled with developers that support the OUYA

http://ubuntuforums.org - Ubuntu Based Linux forum.

http://forums.tigsource.com/ - Indie Game development forum.

I will be looking into other sites as well. :)

@Benjamin - Thanks for the suggestions. Would you be willing to write a post on one of those sites for us? We are already posting on some other sites, but it would show sincere support if our users were also spreading the word. After all, this is a project driven by a community member, not GG.
