Quick Graphics Question

Hey folks,

I was rummaging around my game options and I noticed something in the graphics panel:

Under display driver, I've got two options: integrated Intel graphics, or the GFX null device. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 6490M.

Here's my question: is it normal for me to only get those two options? Shouldn't I be seeing my Radeon in there as a possible contender? I don't want to be missing out on any precious FPS!

Cheers,
-Bryce

I got there my graphics card and the GFX null device. Looks like torque or your computer does not recognize the other graphics card and uses the onboard one.

Is this a laptop?
Does the graphics card do dynamic switching like the NVidia cards made for laptops?

@Duion: My fears are confirmed!

@Frank: Yeah, it uses this awful control panel called Catalyst. I've got my game set to High Performance mode, but I assumed that Torque would recognize my Radeon while in this mode.

Okay, what we found out a while back was that it is running on the faster card for NVidia setups. But there is no way to inform the driver that it is. So the switch is transparent and just works, but DirectX has no way to know the actual name of the card because the driver still reports the text from the built in card.

When I first saw this post I was like "oh no, not this subject again" because a bunch of the people got all mad blaming GG for the issue. When it turns out it was running on the better hardware the whole time. I hope this doesn't turn into that fiasco again.

Looks like it's a hardware issue on my end. I set Switchable Graphics in my BIOS from Dynamic to Fixed. Suddenly, every game on my computer is getting an intense framerate boost, and Torque is reading my Radeon as I expected!

Oh, and you may need to add any app to the higher end card profile. I don't know how it is done, but there should be a way to tell the driver "hey, this program wants to use the better hardware". That was another issue with the NVidia stuff too.
