My first level in Torque3D

by Duion · in Torque 3D Beginner · 01/18/2013 (5:45 pm) · 9 replies

Finally I found some time to almost finish my first level in Torque, all artwork is done by myself, using public domain material i found on the net, for the textures as a base to work with. It is designed to be a deathmatch-style map.

Looks pretty nice - I've always said that good art is more important than DX 11....

Nice level!
Good to see details like the road poles (not sure what they are really called).

This is very nice!

The only thing missing would be wildlife: bugs, rodents, fish, deer, predators, etc.

They are called delineator, guide post or reflector post. They are 1 meter in height and 12cm in with, they are placed 50cm away from the edge of the road on the side every 50meters... ;)
I spend a lot of time looking such facts up, but at least its accurate now, but i had to increase the road width, to make it compatible with the oversized torque vehicle.

The quality of artwork is not that important in my opinion, its more the composition, authenticity and the colours, for example if you start changing the colour a little it all can start looking ugly. The models itself are very low poly they range from 6-500 polys.

I´m still trying how far i can go, its already pretty laggy, but i only have a 2x2,4 ghz and 2gb ram pc with a cheap 1gb graphics card, this is very low end these days. So there may be some potential to improve.

@frank
Animals? I have no idea how to do them, i started modeling and torque a few month ago. I have no programming skills.

Looks great. Set it to night time, add some thick fog and you've got Alan Wake: Torque Edition.

@Duion,
I was just thinking out loud about what seemed to be missing. It is a great looking level!
If you want animals search around for some art packs. There are some with butterflies in them here at GG I think. Of course since the level is for FPS it probably does not need wild life...
