T3D 1.2 Pro - Textures don't show up under certain circumstances
by Bryce · in Torque 3D Professional · 11/18/2012 (12:14 pm) · 3 replies
Build: 1.2 Pro
Platform: Windows 7 64-bit
Target: Game and editors
Issues:
I've got a fairly large (not sure if that makes a difference) DAE model for my level. I never have any issues loading it into Torque, and all textures/materials show up fine.
My laptop uses the Radeon 6490 graphics card. With this card, I can right-click the desktop, and hit "Configure switchable graphics." This opens a dialog box that lets me change the graphics mode for my applications between "Power Saving" and "High Performance," the latter giving the program a nice speed boost.
In power saving mode, my model and its textures load just fine. When I switch to high performance and restart the game, suddenly almost half of my textures are missing! I don't mean the "No Texture" filler, I mean they're totally transparent. I can still collide with these surfaces using the Visible Mesh collision option. There are absolutely no hints in the console, and the material editor has all the materials and their textures loaded up just fine.
And of course, if I switch back to Power Saving, the textures are back. Is this an issue anybody's seen before? These textures are all JPEGs and PNGs, and I can't tell what factors make certain textures disappear and other textures stick around. My drivers are up to date.
Help is always appreciated!

Try different versions of your drivers, ive found sometimes its not always best to have the newest driver version from a manufacturer especially when using a card that's a few revisions back, as they get geared more towards the manufacturers latest releases, try it out with one thats dated more from the time of the card tech...

I had this a while back when I was on a dual radeon 1950 setup, although i never tested it between the different power options, i remember back then having to change the catalyst drivers I was on. I only experienced it with terrain textures, the terrain poly that had certain textures on it just didnt render but collision was still active.Try different versions of your drivers, ive found sometimes its not always best to have the newest driver version from a manufacturer especially when using a card that's a few revisions back, as they get geared more towards the manufacturers latest releases, try it out with one thats dated more from the time of the card tech...

That sounds like a driver issue to me. Try downgrading to a recent driver that isn't the latest. ASUS G74SX has similiar problems where they've released unstable drivers.
