Can Kinect for Windows be used in T3D?

...it was tricky, though. Took updating the USB ports to be USB3 compatible, I think.

Chris C. got the drivers working for us and Ecstasy Motion can utilize the Kinect! EM also can read the OptiTrack cameras system data....it was tricky, though. Took updating the USB ports to be USB3 compatible, I think.

Was that with the Xbox version prior to the Kinect for Windows release? I know it was tricky to get the Xbox Kinect going without the official drivers.
@jiapai:
I've not heard of anyone yet getting the Kinect for Windows SDK to work with T3D yet. But there shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't. I have one here that I would like to get working with T3D some day, but haven't found the time yet.

I have also heard that the open source driver will work with the Xbox version. As of now there are no license agreements for the use of hardware.
Some companies are trying to change it so you cannot resell devices with firmware in them as a copyright issue. This is not the case right now, but if they get their way it could be illegal to resell your cell phone for instance. So be vigilant and contact reps for any legislation that would do this. This includes free trade agreements, and UN agreements as well.

From what I have read is that the open source library for the Kinect has a very similar feature set, and the license does not limit you to Windows OS/Devices. If you use the Windows SDK you cannot use it on the Mac or Linux because of this license.I have also heard that the open source driver will work with the Xbox version. I think they where talking about releasing an Ecstasy Motion SDK so you can use Kinect in your own T3D games.
It may be worth asking them on there forums?

It was a bit rough getting the kinect camera working; although we were successful! I've used the Kinect with iPi motion capture system and it worked.
Not sure what the xBox version of the kinect is....I'm assuming it was those versions we use, as this was early in the kinect-2-PC testing we did. I use the kinect we use on the PC's with my xBox console....

I believe we used the 'openNI' drivers for the kinect, the 'official' drivers from MS had too many strings attached, if I remember correctly...It was a bit rough getting the kinect camera working; although we were successful! I've used the Kinect with iPi motion capture system and it worked.
