Torque 3D Game Development Cookbook by David Wyand

There was no synopsis of the book on Amazon.com So I'm wondering if it's going to be fps centric or will it actually have useful code for everybody.

Maybe David could elaborate a bit on his new book ;)

Just ordered a copy from Amazon, as well! Next-day air? Sure, why not! Stoked.

The eBook version has just been published on the Packt Publishing site: www.packtpub.com/torque-3d-game-development-cookbook/book. Hopefully they will be filling out their site with a sample chapter soon, as well as the final table of contents.

And I notice the Kindle version is available on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Torque-Game-Development-Cookbook-ebook/dp/B00B71KZ10/ref=sr_1_cc_...

I understand that the physical version is being printed right now. Strangely, the Amazon page for the physical book is still showing the old cover, so perhaps that will be updated when the book is ready to ship.

Once it looks like the publisher has everything ready to go I'll post a blog about the book.

@Xartoons:
Good point, it does say in stock. I guess everything is farther along than the publisher let on. :)

I got it on Kindle. I found out that I can get a free PC client, Android client, etc. I have not looked at it yet, but I am stoked to read this evening.

Thank you for confirming one of my suspicion I had about the network stack for Torque. Even after all these years it still based of the archaic and non flexible TCP.

The high performance part of Torque's networking is pure UDP (not TCP):

@Jimmy,
Quote:How it works... Torque 3D uses UDP to communicate between the server and connected clients.

The only TCP is with the TCPObject or the HTTPObject or the RSS Stuff.

@All,
This is so funny. I am looking through the Kindle version saying: woah, it is searchable. Then I see I can put in bookmarks and notes. I am now saying, "Why do I buy paper books anymore?" Haha! Paradigm shift!

Thanks for the clarification. I was worried that I would have to code a whole new network infrastructure from scratch.

Torque won a bunch of awards for their networking code. It is some of the best in the industry. Back in modem days is when it was designed so it had to be very efficient with bandwidth. Consequently it supports a lot of connections because of this efficiency.

It is the shis! Whatever shis means...
