Pro or Basic, which will I need?

Hey folks, I wanted to drop in and get some community advice.
I am working with a friend of mine to develop a game with gameplay and interface similar to Terraria/Starbound/etc.

I decided to use T2D since I already own a copy from back in 2006. I thought I had bought the Pro version back then, and would have access to the engine source. Turns out I had only purchased the basic indie license.

I realize that the game I'm trying to do can be built without ever touching the T2D source code, but what I am worried about is networking capability (Since I do want to include multiplayer support), and general processing speed (I understand that some things just run faster if they're implemented through source instead of script).

So my question to you is this. Is the current state of T2D up to the challenge of creating a multiplayer-supported game similar to Terraria and Starbound using just the basic version, or would I be better served buying the Pro version?

For something like that you will need access to the source code to expand the networking layer. T2D only has a lite version of the Torque Network Layer which only supports turn based gameplay. You can upgrade to a studio license which will include the source code. You can do this from your products page by clicking the Convert link for T2D, the cost is somewhere around $20 or $30 (can't remember exactly off the top of my head).

but 1st think about your capability.can u add that multiplayer support in t2d.if no,then do u have capability to hire someone to do that.i am sure cost will be real high.

because i already have read so many post asking real time multiplayer supprot in t2d.none of them were succeded.so think before going with scott's advice.

Okay, I looked into converting my current copy to a studio license, however I can't find any detailed info on what exactly such a license conversion actually means.

Is a studio license the kind that's assigned on a seat basis? What other limitations apply?
What is the difference (if any), between the Convert and Transfer options listed on the My Poducts page?

Studio needs to be assigned to you for you to use it. But it's not a limitation - it means you can buy licenses and reassign to other people in your employ :)

You want Convert. Don't worry about the other one. Hover over the question mark at the top of your product list for an explanation.
