Buying the right engine...Questions

Hi, I was an artist at a game studio, knows little programming. I've been searching for the right game engine to make my own game. We used a proprietary engine while at work, so I have never tried anything beside that.
So I stumble into Torque and have tried a few tutorials using Torque 2D. I've tried Unity, UDK, and this is the easiest for me to use so far since the engine is more suitable for the game that I had in mind. UDK would have been great if it's not mainly an fps type of game.
So I'm about to buy an engine from Garage Games, but am confused between Torque 2D and iTorque 2D. I want to make games for the iphone/ipad, but need the genre kit to help me with most of the coding. Are the kit compatible for iTorque as well? I am assuming it doesn't since it wasn't mentioned in the requirement, but shouldn't it be? since seems like they are based on the same code?
Or should I buy Torque to make the game, and then iTorque when the game is ready and need to implement the touch controls?
Is there a new iTorque version since the last is almost a year old?
Sorry if this has been asked before, but thank you in advance

I will say you: if you´re going to invest time learning an engine. Download Unity, it´s free and the docs are neat. I know iTorque its easy to use, but you will save money and headaches if you start Unity, that have more support. I´m moving now to Unity since the lack of attention to the iTorque engine. Lame. They have gold in their hands with this engine, that sadly its turning into nothing.

It's a shame.

Yeah, it's sad. I really liked the software the most from what I tried, but the support is terrible and I think the community is almost gone too. I've been looking into other softwares like Unity and corona. It's a shame.
