A library of addons and applications for Torque 3D

by Lukas Joergensen · in Torque 3D Beginner · 07/29/2012 (4:09 pm) · 8 replies

Hey guys!
So I launched The big addon thread recently, but then came to think about alot of the ideas people have proposed to GG.
Alot of people think that the resources is too inacessible, and we need a place where it is easy to guide through the different products etc that people have made.
So I thought I would throw a concept site together.
The site here features a library of alot of the products and resources that has been released for T3D.
If there is support for such a site, I will keep it running, polish it some more and add some new features.

Note: I wrote about 80% of the code just today and it is not polished, errors may occur!
Also, several products need description and none of them have a formatted description. This might be fixed in the future, although my plan is to allow the creators of the products to be able to polish the descriptions themselves. If this site gets some attention it is a place which might increase income for the creators

So please tell me what you think and whether you find such a site interesting, and if you have any feature suggestions, throw it at me.

Great ideas abound today it seems. Site loaded quickly and smoothly for me, and I'm not experiencing anything weird. Checking your GeoControl 2 page now.

lukas,
did u steal all my ideas!this one is number 3.what next!!!
:)

this type of helping site on torque engine has bad record about support.there are some sites on torque engine:
tdn,......(can not remember.somewhere in my hdd there is a list)

i think the problem is torque engine is not much popular in game dev market.only some bunch of people with programming knowledge like it.and most of them are professional.and they do not have time to support or go to other site for references.

so to help people if gg tag your thread under "Category Tags" in Torque 3D Public forum then that could be much more support able.

beside that u can enrich your own site.also add a link in your Bio.and always add a link under each of your post.in that way u can let other to know about your site.

@Ahsan
Caw caw I have hacked your checklist!
Next idea is: "Unicorns with cakes on their horns that have to unravel the mystery of the four eyed bunny" ... Nah you can have that one for yourself.. :)

I have to agree with you tho on the popularity of Torque, but I think one of the reasons to this is there is no asset store or simple way to find a list of everything thats made in T3D. People look at the site and are like.. Meh not much to find here.. This is one of the things I try to solve by creating a easy library of all the things that have been developed for Torque.

Eventually I Would like to add a Games library aswell where people can post the games they made.
And maybe even some sort of asset store. Tho I do hope that GG takes the initiative and integrates it into their site!
Something similar would be very cool to have for T3D!

But I have to agree with you on that people on GG quickly loses their interest and support on community projects and it can be hard to keep the popularity of a site.

Although I hope I can keep it alive by talking about it in my frequent blogs! :)
Adding the links here and there is not a bad idea aswell..

And let me stress out that if people like the concept and maybe even are willing to pay some time to improve the site I will keep it going for as long as the interest is here!

One other note is that this site was actually also made with developers in mind, to help getting their products through to new users! In 3 weeks alot of people may have forgotten about RecastT3D and new users might not stumble across it when they look for pathfinding solutions. On the site they can find all these "old" products with a simple click of a button!

Read up on Konrad Kiss' TorqueBay website from a few years ago... I recall a few blogs and discussions about it. It was near perfect for this sort of thing.

Read up on TorqueBay, man it seems like that site was a true gem. Too bad it went down.
I will see if I can be more succesfull with my site! My aim is to keep the website on a subdomain of my own site, so it doesn't really cost money for me to maintain the site. Therefore I can keep it running even with a low amount of visitors.
