Question for GarageGames employees

I know this is a bit of a stretch to ask, but is it at all possible to switch my Torque 3D 1.2 License to Torque 2D.
I've now spent about a month with Torque 3D 1.2 and have come to the conclusion that I got way too ahead of myself. I downloaded the 2D Engine and it seems much more up my alley and easier to use.
I have a learning disability and am finding it much too hard to grasp how everything works in a 3D environment.
I'm aware how much cheaper Torque 2D is, I'm not looking for any kind of refund for the remaining amount, I'm just finding myself more frustrated at not understanding simple concepts.
I completely understand if you guys can't do this, I thought it might be worth a shot.
If I could I would just buy Torque 2D. I was bought this as a super early Birthday present, I really don't have money due to school.
Thanks for reading!
I'm having fun messing with Torque 2D :)
Edit: I was also checking out some 2D assets on the store for the future when I actually can afford it and I noticed the RPG music pack demo songs don't work properly. Though you may already know this.

I'll take your advice and think on it a bit and maybe bump this thread when I've made a final decision.

I have to remind myself of this because certain areas will become mountain-like and greatly frustrating. At these times, luckily, the community will remind me of this.
"How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."
BTW: What kind of game did you have in mind?

If you need any direction on T3D I would be glad to help out. Think about each aspect that you are finding difficulty in and attack it one step at a time. This will apply to a 2D platform as well. Dreampharoah, I really want to make an open world game with vector styled art.
It's easy modeling and I can use my experience for pixel art and can apply it to a 3D Concept.
I wanted to start on basic and just start designing the world for a few months and not worry about much else. Just terrain, trees, ponds, mountains and just the enviorment in general.
I was thinking about 150km to 200km size (Huge I know)
Not randomly generated but just normally designed.
Problem is that I don't even know where to start or if Torque 3D is even capable of what I want.

That's the kind of world I had in mind.
I think it's part of the reason heightmaps are confusing me, I don't know how I would go about doing this block style mapping.
If anyone could shed light on this being possible and how I could achieve it I'd be grateful. All I want to do is have fun building a map at this point and expand from there.
I attempted to make a small map and mess around with connifers forest pack but when I placed too many trees & such I noticed a huge dip in FPS. Which shouldn't happen. I have a pretty decent PC too that runs just about anything on max, so that was discouraging.
Also running into an issue with this pack where there is an artifact on the screen wherever grass is

some other people are apparently having issues with it too.

You can make destructible blocks in Torque but you would need to create these blocks just for the terrain, and then some type of shader that would give other objects (trees, players) a block-like look to them.
I think you have the right idea to have fun messing with the terrains and objects first to get an overall feel for the environment, but also you should pen down what you want in the game. What will make it unique to the others. Drawl out what you want your environment to look like so that you have a plan and goals to achieve.
On the Torque homepage under getting started http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque-3d/getting-started
You find some excellent guides for basic game types like RTS, RPG, or racing games even providing the checklists for each type. This will help you in mapping some goals out no matter what direction you decide to go.

I am wondering if the voxel engine can be applied to the T3D engine as a shader. I am seeing an explosion of interest towards voxel inspired by minecraft. Any ideas on this one?You can make destructible blocks in Torque but you would need to create these blocks just for the terrain, and then some type of shader that would give other objects (trees, players) a block-like look to them.

Not sure about applying it as a shader, but you could do an octree write-up to work with your geometry. It would be extending the engine significantly, but it can be nice and performant similar to Sauerbraten.

Blockland is a multiplayer computer game built on the Torque Game Engine, in which players build using Lego-like building blocks.[1] It was developed by Eric "Badspot" Hartman and was released on February 24, 2007.[2]

Genre(s) Sandbox--->(open world)

so i think it is possible.

Not out of the box. Eric wrote a ton of custom code for Blockland. I don't know if it was voxel or not, though.

I'm really interested in using Torque 2D if any of the staff can help me out.

I also have a disability, and it does make things more difficult, but not impossible. I'm also quite dense and that's more of a handicap. :)
Think about it for a while longer I say. Good luck whatever you decide.
