I'm curious to see what your thoughts are on the subject.

I find it interesting in this case the very specific details about the actual game play are brought up. What that means to me is if your inspiration comes from a heavily copyrighted source it can go either way. How you protect yourself most is by differentiating your offering to be a truly new creation, not just a copy of what was there with flashy new graphics.
