Guide Bot vs Univ. AI

by Philip Gregory · in Game Mechanics Kit · 02/18/2012 (2:09 am) · 3 replies

I've decided that I would like to add GMK and either Universal AI or Guide Bot to my tools. In terms of UAI and Guide Bot, which is better and what are the pros and cons for each? The most I can see is the $15 difference but I don't want to overlook anything.

About the author

Yes... Those are ribs. Current projects: Breaking out of the box in T2D, devoting efforts and talents to Middle School student tech projects (including basic Python programming!)

Perhaps should have asked for opinions on a non GMK specific forum. Maybe in the general forums?

Personally, I've been using UAISK and it works fine for my needs. Doesn't take much to set it up and includes all the basics. Its a good improvement on the stock AI code. No engine edits necessary.

I haven't tested Guide Bot recently, but from the descriptions its a completely different type of product. Not sure if it requires source changes, which means you need Pro license possibly. But it mentions reacting to sounds, finding cover, throwing grenades and support for stances (stand, crouch, prone) by default.

However, for a true, non-biased response ... would suggest posting in the general forums.

Minimizing the amount of 3rd party authors involved in your project would be ideal for your development process. Instead of having to go to multiple people for any support questions you only have to go to one (or one source). Not only that, but if you have issues between conflicts of 3rd party add-ons there wouldn't be any real support for it. Why would Person A who built Product A support Person Bs Product when they know nothing about it, other than it's causing glitches with their product.

So if you're going with GMK then the above should be reason enough to go with GuideBot.

This topic I ran into on the Private Torque 3D boards further adds to this:
