looking for someone to rig models to soldier skeleton
by Kory Imaginism · in Jobs · 02/10/2012 (6:37 pm) · 13 replies
I have about 11 or 12 models that I'm needing to have rigged to the soldier's rig. These model can be converted into whatever format to be rig but the rig needed is the garagegames soldier rig. So the animation can be used with the character models. Pay is negotiable, contact me at jstanleynwo@yahoo.com
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, yes I was looking to use the soldier biped so I could share animations. Also if there is any changes to T3D the character wouldn't need to be redesign, rigged, or anything. It's not that I have to use the biped it would just make things easier. Anyways if I decide to go with a another biped then I would more than likely go the method you mentioned. My issues are I never learn how to rig :( I in the process of learning but for the project to move quicker I would be better for having a professional do it. My other issue is not having a big budget but if there's a will there's a way!

If you can prove you're an indie-dev and/or a hobbyist, I will skin your humanoids to a GG character bone/rig of your choice(see list) for $45 each!!
Additional bones = additional cost.
More than 5 humanoids -> reduced price to -> $40 each!
** ..now THAT IS indie friendly!!! :D ** (is this a good price Kory?)
(elf lady/orc/spaceorc/soldier/boombot/gideon/other generic biped here)
Am I qualified ? ..
I have rigged dozens & dozens of humanoids in the last 7 years. I have worked with world class companies from AAA studios & munitions simulation demonstrations to indie devs at the startup level. ;)
- This has made me fast at the work without reducing the quality. ;)
In fact, I'm going to make a blog on my services and a few other cool things too.. it may take a few days but I'll make one about this.
hit me up if you want to make a deal;

since I have had a few requests lately for indie-price-friendly rig tasks..and let's face it, $ is tight for small projects..so..If you can prove you're an indie-dev and/or a hobbyist, I will skin your humanoids to a GG character bone/rig of your choice(see list) for $45 each!!

@TheGasMan: What type of proof are you looking for. 8-}

hehe,that is what i know.
and that is why i was thinking for automated rigging service like http://www.mixamo.com/c/auto-rigger.
i will use their bone and a huge collection of animation for fps,racing.....
also i think many other motion collection pack support their bone.
for a good future,it will be a good approach

"digital flux" uses mixamo's service.
and any one(may be an associate) who has written some blog or resource on MMO also has the same logo.
anybody know him?

but here's the problems I see with Mixamos' current setup..
(this is not to say that it is not a viable service to people who do not care about rig quality)
1. every part of the model is treated as organics/cloths, which means a soldier with solid armor will not look correct when animated.AKA: the armor will stretch and bend
2. Mixamo has 7 points for general bone/joint placements. This will NEVER be able to mimic professional qual. rigs.
If you like the quick and dirty approach to character rigging(which is what this is (character faces morph/mutate via bad vert weight blend settings, ..then by all means; use mixamo.
..the situation here is that a simplistic automated system will never take the place of a professional; regarding rigging. The system would have to allow variables and mesh property settings and so on and so on.
..but then would it be so cheap and simple anymore ? I'd hope but who knows.
Also; does Mixamos' rig work for GG animation files ? ..I would say no but I'm not 100% sure. So you would need new animation files too. ..something to think about. ;)
So you have your choices;
Mixamo: quick, cheap and dirty'ish ($29.99 for a test model(4,500 tris))
or
Me: quick, cheap'ish and pro
..it's good to have choices. ..right ?! ;)
//
@Quinton; 99% of GG forum'ers are all set. That's mainly for new people who want to get that work price. ;)

@muzaheed, the autorig technique does sound interesting. I may looking into that technique for one of our other projects.
@rex, Yeah we are waiting to hear back from them now. They may not go with us because we are just a small team, but it never hurts to try. Anyways we are currently working to get ecstasy motion. That look like the solution to our issue but once we have the models rigged!

Once I have raised the small amount of funding hat I need, I will be in touch to negotiate with you.
Thanks for the Info. I am probably going to go with about 6 models to start off with.

@TheGasMan: Sweet, I will be in touch. I am currently finalising my Demo and prepping all the necessary documentation and other items to get a funding campaign going on IndieGoGo (can't use Kickstarter because I am in South Africa).Once I have raised the small amount of funding hat I need, I will be in touch to negotiate with you.

Torque 3D Owner Jordan Fye
For example, use the 3dsm biped. Name the bones accordingly. Then with a little bit of scripting, you can use the biped on all of your models. The "plus" side to this, is that there is a lot of biped motion captures floating around the web for free.
I presonally think the soldier rig is amazing, with great animation. It would also be great to rig your charaters to those bones just to save time on animations. So I can see why you need this.
However, with using your own rig/animations you can really set your game apart from all the other torque games.
I could rig them up with bipeds, but I've never messed around with converting the soldier rig. It might be as simple as naming your new bones the same as the soldiers, I've just never tried.
