Terrain has "painted" look

I'm not sure what's causing this, but the terrain looks "painted". My settings are maxed, you cannot really see any detail unless up close.
The terrain is a port from an older version of TGE. But repainting does nothing.

For Torque 3D terrain a terrain material is made up of a texture, a detail, and a normal map which can include parallax. The color or diffuse texture is simply that: general coloration with no explicit detail. You apply detail (fades out over distance) by use of a detail texture layer - this can be adjusted for size, distance, and strength.

sorry man, its still on the cooker at the moment, life threw me a few shit hands recently though so unfortunately torque is one of the less prioritised things at the moment. I know its getting to a 'vaporware' stage but the intention to get it released is still there.
