Its sad to day, that the community does seem very very quiet these days, a far cry from the torque forum of old.I hope people come back and take an active interest in the forums.

For now tho, Merry Christmas everyone.

All the forums I visit have been slow this year. A lot of people have "other" things on their minds. Let's hope for a better new year. For now tho, Merry Christmas everyone.

While far from dead, there's certainly a lack of interesting posts in recent times. I know I only visit the forums about once a day, Resources about once a week, and the blogs only about once a month compared to the always lurking about of yesteryear.

People have documentation now, so no need to be all questioning in the forums now. Right? Wasn't that the theory? While far from dead, there's certainly a lack of interesting posts in recent times. I know I only visit the forums about once a day, Resources about once a week, and the blogs only about once a month compared to the always lurking about of yesteryear.

I would say with documentation the questions would be more in depth rather than fewer.

I just recently purchased and upgraded to T3D V1.2 and purchased Torsion
to go with it.
Even though I'v been reading lot, you can never have enough examples
to look at, I don't think anyone can remember how to program everything
without resources.
I find the forums and the samples others have posted to be worth more than all the books on Torque that I have purchased over the years
(I'v got over $400 in books on Torque).
To spend so much time, money, and personal interest into Torque and now when the interest seems to be dropping off upsets me greatly, so I hope it's just a short holiday thing as I really want my fellow
3D artist, programmers, and game designers to exchange information with.
I also hope that Garage Games stays around for many more years, the test of time so far has shown it to be a reliable and well loved Engine an it has survived many questionable times.
I can only say if I was Rich, I would purchase GG to keep it going.

Also dont forget that mobile gaming is the biggest fad of the moment, the itorque forums are getting almost as many posts as the entire rest of the community put together, or at least they were till T3D 1.2 release. So there's still a lot of life in the community, even if its focused.

I think the dark times of IAC took their toll on the community, prices raised to non indie friendly levels, lack of community communication, lack of giving a damn and so on. Its going to take time for the community to rebuild partly because of the economic situation for many, partly because some of the community forced out have gone to other engines and not come back (yet). Also dont forget that mobile gaming is the biggest fad of the moment, the itorque forums are getting almost as many posts as the entire rest of the community put together, or at least they were till T3D 1.2 release. Reason CAR crashes are going sky high, along with car insurance!
I think with the ability to export to game system may bring more
users back/ into using Torque. I have Dark Basic Pro (paid for)
never used it, no where as user friendly, or easy to use.
Torque is like Visual Basic, event driven, click a button, add code for what that button does, simple easy.
Torque is kinda like that, add objects (players, health pack, ammo, etc)
and then add code for what it does.
I think GG is in good hands now, the price is low, and support good, and they do talk back to you!

2012 is going to be a great year.

Now that the eggnog is wearing off, and GarageGames is gearing up for a fresh new year, expect to see more GG employees here. Hopefully this will bring back more regulars (old and new). :)2012 is going to be a great year.

Nor can I find information about where the behaviors are on this site.
01/15/2012 (11:53 pm)
I am just returning after three years, myself. Can't start a thread on the forums, which is annoying. I can't locate Behaviors for use in the latest build of Torque 2D. Nor can I find information about where the behaviors are on this site.

I don't see anything in your preferences which stops you from making threads. Could you describe the problem more in-depth so that I can have the webteam look at it? Your account seems just like any other.

Do behaviors for T2D come with the source files I just downloaded for reinstalling T2D? Or do I download behaviors from somewhere on this web site?
David, I don't know why I can't post a new thread. I can reply to existing threads (obviously). After I input the code at the bottom of the New Thread page, I click on SAVE, but nothing happens. The page just snaps back to the top. I am using Firefox. I will try this in IE.

Michael, I don't know a lick of programming yet, which is why I have been wanting to use behaviors. I have started, however, to learn the basics of programming concepts, and am looking over books for introduction to C++.Do behaviors for T2D come with the source files I just downloaded for reinstalling T2D? I sorry, I'm a T3D user, and like you I'v been reading and studying but not doing any scripting yet.
I can't help you on T2D, but I think when you get your problem fixed with posting you can get help in the T2D forums!
Good Luck,
Mike

If I would have enough Torque knowledge and wouldn't feel like a total stranger here I would probably participate a bit more :D At the moment I don't feel like I can contribute much yet, though. (Wow that is one ugly sentence)

Always feel free to ask questions if you have them.
The worst anyone can say is RTFM!

Asking questions, seeking guidance, etc, is a contribution for it leads us lazy folks to lend a helping hand or to offer a suggestion.

Hehe, thanks but I'm doing fine so far by using the search functionality and the documentation. I know how annoyed I can get when people keep asking really 'simple' questions and I'm not yet familiar enough with the engine to do complicated stuff about which I may have questions, so I will probably keep my e-mouth shut for a while.

You know if we didn't ask questions this is what would happen:
1: We would never learn how to solve a problem we can't figure out.
2: Questions sometimes give others new ideas that someone else didn't
think of and lead to new ways of doing things, or a new add on!
3: No one ever became a Genius "E=MC2" without asking questions.
So ask away, because it may take a month for the right person to come along and answer your question!
It's also the reason I have over $400 in books on T3D!!!! You can Never
have too many resources, especially when programming.
Good Luck!
Mike.
