1.2 Turret help requested

Dear GG community,
I've been playing a bit with the new 1.2 AITurrets and while they look great the behavior is not exactly what I'm looking for. The old Turret resource would create a trigger area that would cause the Turret to wake up and shoot whatever entered that trigger area.
I'm trying to mimic the same behavior with the new turrets but can't seem to there with just datablock changes. From my brief reading of the code it seem that the following datablock changes would create an area in front of the turret that would be equal to half the previous trigger area such that I could two turrets back to back to get something equivalent to the old resource. But even with these settings my target's are't found as easily. it seems to only find targets in the same xy plane.
I know I haven't dug as deep as maybe I should be, I'm hoping someone has solved this or knows of a possible solution. Thanks!
