This is created with Torque right? I think Tribes 1 was Torque and that's how the whole engine and GarageGames begun.

I believe it's Unreal ...
IA sold off the rights to the profitable bits of GG ...

No, it's running off of a modified version of Unreal Engine 3.

Starsiege: Tribes used the Darkstar engine which was a predecessor to the engine used in Tribes 2 which later became v12/Torque.

Starsiege Tribes = Darkstar (Torque's grandfather - the good one in the series)
Tribes 2 = Torque's dad(eventually became Torque - dumbed down game)
Tribes Vengeance = Unreal (had a single player campaign - failed)
Legions = TGEa (InstantAction - lame)
Tribes Ascend = Unreal (has potential, but pay to play inventory, no modding)

@Michael Perry: ok, yeah, I was a bit harsh there. At least it didn't actually use the Tribes name ;)

I don't think I'd call T2 dumbed down, it was just closer to the original Dynamix vision. The old recordings that T1 used to ship with (showed the devs playing against each other on various maps) depicted a slower, more vehicle-centric game than what T1 actually became. If I'm remembering correctly Dynamix even released a T1 mod (base+ I think it was called) prior to T2's release that removed skiing and made the game play as originally intended. Needless to say, it wasn't a big success.

With T2 they tried to find some middleground but forced certain design concepts which was a questionable decision.

Tribes: Vengeance was an unfortunate abomination that should never have been made. It is still, by far, one of of Irrational's biggest disappointments.
