Installation exe will not install

by Ori Cohen · in Torque 3D Professional · 12/01/2011 (10:33 pm) · 13 replies

i am running win7, 3gigs ram, 1.2TB of space.
i'm running the exe with admin privileges, it will die after "preparing to install, checking disk something..."
i downloaded twice already, this is not a corrupt exe problem on my end.

Try updating your GPU drivers and DX first.

i cant, using the latest GPU available (2 years ago...) working on a mobile pc here and they stopped supporting after vista died.

regarding dx, already have the latest version. but why is this directly related to an installation exe, drivers issues should appear only when running the engine...if at all.

Do you have the necessary free space available for the installation?

yes 1.2TB

Just to make sure, you have 1.2Tb of free space and not a total hard drive space of 1.2Tb?

Can you give the rest of that error message? Or a screenshot? Would be handy. Thanks!

Do you have a setup where your TEMP directory doesn't have enough space in it? The installer drops a few zips there to extract them into the install directory and cleans them up afterward. Ran into an edge case a few weeks back where someone wasn't able to install because there wasn't enough space in their TEMP directory.

you might be right, C drive is probably without space at all.
i'll report back soon.

yeah that was the solution. to clean about 2gb of space on drive C which has the temp dir.

you should add a Ctemp drive requirements to the installation checks.

You realize that hard drive performance degrades if you have less than 20% free space. You should probably try to ensure that all drives have at least 20% free space on them (except of course optical media). I don't know if this applies to solid state drives, though.

i didnt know that, can you point to a page that says so ?
btw i might not have room in drive c, but i do have multiple partitions. i am sure the free space amounts to 20% of the drive..

I can point you to a book called Upgrading and Repairing PC's by Scott Mueller (make sure you check the author - there are two books by this title or so close as to make almost no difference). Also, almost any A+ Certification book....
