Will my Gmax models etc work with T3D. Is there any scripts or tools made for Gmax that will allow me to import them into the free Blender?

I think you can use Tempest for Quake3 models or map files and then import those into blender with a Quake3 Python Script(if you can still find it). It's a messy pipe and probably not legal for commercial use.

You will need to jump through several conversion programs to go from MDL to any other format. MDL's are a Quake-native format. Using something like UltimateUnwrap or Milkshape would probably be the easiest way to get them into something more useful.
