This would be interesting!

Has anybody ever played or developed a first person RTS? I'm facinated at the thought of this.

Does anybody else have and weird combinations like this?

There have been a few of them made.

C&C Renegade
Rise and Fall
*technically Arma or Operation Flashpoint
Company of Heroes Tales of Valor

just to name a few, cheers.

The old half-life humans vs aliens mod Natural Selection did this very well. An FPS for most players, and a full-on RTS for whoever sat in the command station. The commander could order troops to go to positions and preform tasks, deploy buildings, upgrades, etc. And the players had to follow those orders or risk defeat through lack of discipline. The coolest part was that combat was a nice blend of FPS skill, and how well your commander could manage your upgrades and load-outs.

Looks like they're working on a part 2!

Machines had a first person command mode in which you could control any mech in your rts army... that was 10-12 years ago.

Empire Earth had a camera zoom that let you get up close to the battlefield . It tilted as you got closer to the battlefield so it gave the appearance of fps viewpoint when you were following or controlling your troops at ground level.

The game Savage worked similar to the way that Natural Selection did as described by Brian.

Dont forget to check out the made by Torque section. I noticed some interesting combinations of genre, including RTS.

Crimson Crow actually claims to be a FPS, RPG and RTS game.
http://www.moddb.com/games/crimson-crow is the link provided.

I'm at work or I'd check into more titles. -Just the first I saw there with both FPS and RTS listed. :D

@Brian: By the way, NS was amazing fun back in the day! going to have to keep tabs on that one.

I must have been living in a hole or something because I've never heard of any of these games, other than empire earth. Lol.

@Brian, @Aaron,

If either one of you still play NS it would be interesting to know what servers you play on. I have been part of the community for nine years now, I use to be the old PT Lead waay back for 2.0 (I was the PT Lead after the origin one left after 1.04).

I don't recall the exact game name, Dungeon lord or something like that. Anyways was a very old game where you spawned demons inside a dungeon and defended against other demon lords as well as humans that would eventually send their "champion" in to kill you. you mined and expanded you'r dungeon as you played. but the game had a very unique feature that allowed you to take first person control of any one of your units, allowing you to fight with them or even mine. off to work or id search for the game title, ill find it later :p. old game but was very fun.

Dungeon Keeper 2 was recently released, in fact.

@Joseph: I haven't played NS in a long time. I miss it now that it has been brought back up and is fresh in my memory. I have a really bad habit of playing only newer games or games I never left, though. My eyes tend to bleed with older/blocky graphics these days. -Which makes it hard to look at my own 3d models since they always come out looking like the work of a 3 year-old. :P

-- Not that NS didn't look amazing for it's time. (It did!)
