Ok guys quick question, I am not new to torque, but I am having a serious problem every demo I try is extremely slow. The South West Demo, The FPS Project, what gives.

This is the system specs I have

Intel (R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHZ, 2793 MHZ, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Proc

2 GB of Ram

GeForce 9500 GT
Memory Interface 128-Bit
Dedicated Video Memory 512 MB DDR2

Now I don't want to start off like this as I am ready to create, after having problems with the C4 engine, figured this may best fit my projects requirements.

Any help appreciated.

Pacific Demo has tonnes of stuff going on, and your system is crap ... but don't worry, so is mine. ;)

Try reducing settings, I found that dropping Mesh Quality down helped smooth things out, though with your 9500GT you might want to lower other things too. (I've got a GTS250, but my CPU and RAM are the same as yours)

And of course, make sure that your GPU drivers and DirectX are the newest versions.

Ok Steve what is the required specs, to have the projects run smoothly.

One more thing when I start developing my project, will I have the same results as running these projects (demo).

My projects will not be as graphic and physics intense as these projects for now.

The demos aren't particularly optomized, they're really just showing off "shiny", and Pacific has a ton of PhysX objects - performance actually imporves the more of them you shoot!

Just experiment reducing the various options 1 by 1 until you get something playable.
I find sticking mesh+shader on normal and lighting+texture on low helps. Your mileage may vary.

Switch from Advanced lighting to Basic lighting and turn off shadows, My laptop has a 9500 and seems to be the easiest way to get performance to a decent level to develop from.

This is not the official word - More video memory is better. I personally recommend 1GB of video memory. Those demos have lots of shiney....

Anyway - my friend has the same processor but upgraded to a 1GB card and everything worked way better (and the card was around $110, but if you look you could find a deal).

I was just curious what kind of problems your were having? Were they performance related as with T3D or did you have a problems with C4's architecture?

I have a Core i5 Processor with 1 GB dedicated VRAM and the Pacific demo still stuttered on my machine.

Pacific Demo runs 13~22 fps

Not awesome, but not an awesome system. The whole rig is 3 or 4 years old and nothing was top of the line when I put it together. Also note that there is nothing by nVidia, so no hardware PhysX support.

Depending on particular hardware you can gain a real speed boost by simply dropping the resolution. I don't know if people are really aware of what a difference it can make. I use 1280x800 and get better performance than my mates who prefer everything at maximum res.

I had the same problem when setting up our computer lab for working with T3D 1.1 and could not find anything in depth on what we needed hardware wise so I started two threads on it. I got a lot of responses and it helped us get the information we needed to know what part of our computers to upgrade.

Here are the links here on the forums. WARNING there is a lot of information on hardware but everyone kept is simple and I tried to organize what I could in a way to get anyone from point A to point Z as far as who is running what CPU and what video, memory, performance based on their settings and how it runs. Each person also had to tell if they liked their PC set up.
