Google Sketchup Pro 8 and FBX problems

by Kyle Martin · in General Discussion · 09/22/2011 (5:11 pm) · 5 replies

Ok so heres my question. My modeler is very very good with Google Sketchup and he can make some awesome models with it. But as we know google sketchup pro saves as .3ds or .max or any of that. But when we use the FBX converter to convert it to a .fbx then .dae (Collada) and import it to the game. The game either crashes in world editor or the model is a solid color and messed up.

I want to know if anyone else has had success making buildings and stuff in google sketchup and then getting it into t3d. If so how do you do it?

Google Sketchup has an export to Collada feature (.dae) and an export to Google Earth feature (.kmz). Torque 3D supports both.

Coming from 3DS Max you should be fine using their built in Collada exporter or we have had really good success using the OpenCollada opencollada.org/download.html Exporters

Well every time we exported it from Google Sketchup pro 8 to .dae and added it into torque 3d in a empty terrain via meshes > shapes > Folder > The .dae file (double click) itll start to load then crash.

Its not just this file. Its any .dae that we get from google warehouse or make and export.

Can you send me any file that isn't working for you? I can't seem to replicate the issue on my end.
