How do I smoothshade my model in Torque Constructor?

I made this Blockland pinetree on torque constructor and I exported it as a legacy .dif file. For some reason the round base has some problems with lighting, how do I fix?

The base is not fully shaded right.

Wouldn't you be better off doing that model inside a modeling application than using it as a .dif?

My experience with Torque/Blockland is that models shade better as a .dts.
I think with the older engine the shading wasn't very good in the first place.
