crash on import of Torque character models into modellers

by Zeph · in Technical Issues · 09/05/2011 (3:30 pm) · 1 replies

Im trying to get use to the Torque way of things... Im attempting to use the Torque default soldier file as a reference in modellers to make prefabs, buildings, and other structures for height comparison... Every time I attempt to import the model into the modeler I get the hour glass crass program is not responding or the a pop up that the file is not recognized... I have to use the task manager to close the application...

Modlers used are: MAX 2012, Maya 2012, and, Blender 2012...

Maybe Im doing something wrong, or something has changed over the years since Ive used the old Torque engine compared to the new Torque 3d engine.. Maybe Ive forgotten...

My default folder is C:\Torque\Torque 3D Pro 1.1\My Projects\tutorialisland\game\art\shapes\actors\Soldier

File types Ive attempted to import are DAE, and DTS: soldier_rigged.DAE , and soldier_rigged.cached

Pretty much nothing imports .dts files, your best bet if you cannot import the DAE is to find something to convert it. There may be some max format source files somewhere as i seem to think there was a discussion about it a while back.

Assuming GG artists practice what GG preaches, the DAE model will have been exported using the openCOLLADA exporter for 3ds max, since this doesnt seem to be readily available for the 2012 editions (i believe eb may have compiled a version, do a search of the site) it may be just as easy for you to rollback to the 2011 editions where the exporter is readily available.
