Suggestions for improvements to the site of GarageGames

(sorry if anything I said something wrong, and also if the text is kind of strange, I worked hard to correct the translation errors, because I use google translator to interact!)

Hello Community!

Well, I thought of making this topic after losing the Community Day due to the time zone problem! While talking with some community users (waiting for Mich to end your cold pizza) when I decided to create a post on the GG site.

What I was thinking is on the organization of site content, other users do not know, but the search system hardly helps me in difficult times (and develop games, is to ask to have these difficulties). Because it does not allow me to better filter out the search and organize the way I want, google me shoves down our throats that I do not want!

Then I thought of some ideas, since we are a community (at least I have this thought) and would like to give some suggestions:

1. Categorizing Resources.

It would be great if we had this option, so we could navigate filtered in as we want, in the way that this much content is lost, since it is organized by date, not relevance.

I think it would be worthwhile to hold the product (T3D, T2D, etc.), then within categories (PostFx, DB, etc.). It would be great for the vision of those who access would be much greater on the content of the GG.

2. Advanced Search.

If the search options of how to organize for newer items, type of relevance would be better, I know that google has a very cool search system, but from trying unsuccessfully to get content for the search, now believe that it does not unfortunately exist on the site .

3. Topics show if solved or not.

That's nice to find solutions, it is practically part of the documentation. If you set the topics addressed and may be useful for those seeking to facilitate content on the subject.

4. (Pretty crazy idea) encouraging generation of content.

I can not explain it well on the topic, but try to be as clear as possible: it would be a scoring system from users of the site, where he will acquire in accordance with the interaction, for example. If someone put the topic as solved, it sets out who resolved the situation and they score, if you create a resource, a tutorial and so on. One cool thing is to have options in the feature set changes between versions, a resource for TGEA, use boxes with some adaptations for the other engines. Who has good scores in exchange for benefits that site or the products, anything like that, I think it would be something cool and would add more to the community!

well, I have some other ideas, suggestions but as I said is I do not know whether to agree or not.

Thank you and goodbye!

Note: I am a web developer, my intention is not to underestimate any person who administers the site, but anything I am available to help! I love the GG and the entire community! My intention is the best!

Excellent post Marcos. I'm sure Matt will have a look at this.

Most of these have been mentioned and/or discussed in the site wishlist thread.

Great ideas all, but the potential for abuse of the mentioned 'scoring' system would be a huge negative against the site in my opinion.

From past experience, if you implement a scoring system on a forum some people will see it as a game and start gaming the system.

Since most of us on the forum are "power gamers"... ;)

But I like the idea of rewarding problem solvers.

Quote:a scoring system from users of the site
Basically we want a scoring/rating system similar to StackOverflow or OSQA.

This is a very high priority feature for me and i've been talking to Matt about how to get it into the GG site.

when I wrote the post was thinking of the system stack overflow, I think there are ways to control to prevent it from becoming a "game". I agree that an open system so it can become a negative thing. But I think it is well planned is an excellent tool. Where the community will also "moderate" what is good and what is not.

I like the idea of categorizing resources and the scoring/rating system think it would be great to reward people for posting answers, resources, etc.

About the resources, I think the navigation should have a way of showing what she has portability, either text or icons (eg T3D 1.1, TGE, etc.).. Within the resources, perhaps also linked with scores, spaces available to put the portability of the user created, if it is then approved by the majority remains.

with it, I believe that prevents other resources to create the same thing just to show content that has been ported

Working on almost all of these right now. I appreciate the feedback and will log each of these into a ticket for me to research and improve on.
