T3D 1.1 webpayers?? showcase?? examples??

by Patrick Force · in General Game Discussion · 07/06/2011 (8:07 am) · 6 replies

I am back..
Long trip down the unity3d rabbit hole...
I learned a hell of a lot about scripting..
I own the t3d 1.1 binary..and torquescript is so familar to simple c# classes,
that I now see the code in a whole new light..

my question..I'm looking for any T3D 1.1 web player examples...
I have download the required files for install..

I just need to convince myself..do I switch engines??
what are the file sizes, streaming, compression ratio's..
stuff like that..
I know the web player is just one of many output options..
has there been any chages to that system??

all my art is maya/fbx..
conversion should be easy w/ FBX Converter to collada.
But for now my main focus is high quality browser based games.

some old webplayers:
all half done wips...to be combined into one large game.
all my stuff can and will be greatly improved..
lightmaps, draw call reduction, just visually better.
each of these files is between 20-30 mbs, streamed..
watch the browser progress bar.

www.playmerc.com/mercBattleTruck/

this was all done w/ unity indie, the free version.
and I know I can get the file sizes much smaller.

are there any examples, online, that feature T3D 1.1 web player??

UbiqVisuals have their 3D Adventure Kit running in the plugin. The webplayer functionality has not changed significantly.

thanks..now I remember..
not a streaming web player...

so, how I can publish a game to kongregate (or similar sites).
being a straight exe..that has to dowload and install..??

I know this is not what your engine is about..just curious..
I am sure..new standards will come out regarding this..
streaming AAA games to the browser.

Battlestar gallactica is a very good online streamed game..
Does T3D plan on exploring this type of platform?

I'll check the roadmap.

Thanks!!!!

We have no plans at this time to change the web plugin. You might want to check out Spoon, they've got some pretty cool web streaming tech. It's kind of similar to the tech InstantAction was working on for streaming but better.

FYI..confusing times.....

full article:(biased?)
http://www.free-games-online.info/
----------
time for Online-Games? Regarding 75% of the internet-users;
the answer would be a clear yes. According to a study of deutsche-startups.de and Innofact, 78% of the women and 72% of the men out themselves as Online-Gamers.

In the longer term, offine games are likely to fall by the wayside.
---------

spoon..also is slow/ and you can not show a splash page and or play a mini level, cutsecene intro, You have to get the whole thing before any user interaction..

just my own internal rant...

There is no clear distinction between games that are played online versus browser-based games in that discussion. While some distinctions are mentioned, the author is still lumping online-only (no single-player offline component) with web-based games since they hold the online-only flag. Online games and web games share the same space, but it is not wholly relevant to the discussion of browser-based tech since it encompasses games played outside of the browser as well.

I agree.
